Welcome to the IT world. Over saturated to say the least. When I went on unemployment from my last job for about 6 months, I was originally applying to about 50 job openings a week on average. Until I filled them all out and could only do about 8 to 12 a week as new ones I was qualified for became posted. Only somewhat serious offer i had was to go teach in Saudi Arabia if I was willing to teach CS and English there. Was damn tempted to as well for the money they were offering.

Other than that, it took about 6 months to find what I landed right now and that's only because I decided to finally accept a contracting based job. Unfortunately that means in about 4 more months I might be without a job again.

From my 13 years in IT experience I can say that the two best ways to get a job you want in the role you want is to either 1 know someone or 2 use recruiting companies. All the good jobs aren't posted in the paper or online, they go to recruiters.

Try TekSystems and Matrix Staffing. Both (I think) are nation wide.
