Starting a psu

is all you have to do to start one short pins 7 and 8? Is there always power running through pin 14 only? or though all the grounds? or what? I have read all the tutorials, and none of them seem to show what is happening. Does any one know of a site that explains whats happening? I had another thread about joining 3 psu's and 1 of them not working, and i was thinking that the psu was just dead, so how do i test it w/o plugging it into a motherboard? Just short 7 and 8? Let me know what you know or where i can find out, i'd appreciate it alot

thanks

do you have one of those? What does it do ? just complete the circuit? After looking at that i used a paper clip and it started up fine. is that all the power switch does on the case? just close the circuit between 14 and 15?
