Should I think about a protein suppliment? Or would it just be a better idea to work out for size (high weight, low reps)? I'd like to be real serious about this, as I've been very disciplined thus far (three weeks :p).

Definitely add protein to your diet IF you are not getting enough. Rule of thumb is 1 gram of protein for every pound of bodyweight. Just remember to drink lots of water (work your way up to 1 gallon a day) and to actually work out (I know some people who think just drinking protein shakes will make them big).

I'm assuming you know the basics of working out, but take it from someone who screwed up and is now doing things right. Form is 100 times more important the the weight you are lifting. Dont swing weight and dont use momentum, always control your weight when going "down" (negative) or "up" (positive).

stay focused and visualize your muscles growing as you work out and you will be get big and feel great in no time.

good luck, and check out : the forums here for tips on diet and stuff.

also check out : workout animations for good form and exercise descriptions.

It's not necessary. Your body gets enough protein from a balanced diet. I think the required amount is 1.2g of protein per kilogram for an average, healthy person. Weightlifters need upwards of 1.8 to 2.0g / per kg of weight. Don't waste your money.

You will get plenty of protien eating 3 square meals a day, especially if you a just starting out.

Build your body mass by lifting until you are sore, and providing your body with enough nourishment to rebuild itself.

Alright, it's good to hear the advice, lets me know I'm on the right track. I'm paying attention to form, eating the right stuff to let my body recuperate correctly

I'll stick with it longer and see the results, thanks a bunch for the advice!

I'm really surprised to see people saying he doesnt need a protein supplement. Of course, as they have mentioned, it depends greatly on HOW and WHAT you typically eat. How much do you weigh as well? We need more numbers to work with.

Second, food can not take the place of whey protein for post work out purposes. Whey digests infinitly faster than any whole food can, which is important for immediately after the work out.

Damn near every response on a weightlifting/bodybuilding board will be this: Get a protein supplement.
