started Valkyria Chronicles this weekend and I am AMAZED!

just got a ps3 a couple months ago for the blu-ray abilities.. I am not normally a console gamer, with the exception of a few choice RPG games (like FF X, God of War, FF XII).

I picked up Valkyria Chronicles when it was on sale new at gamestop for $30 and haven't gotten a chance to play it until Friday. I am absolutely amazed.

At first, I found the integration of the map system and turn based combat akward, but now I love it. I am only 1/3 of the way through the game and am trying to take it slow to avoid missing anything. I have been doing skirmishes repeatedly to level up my team and learn new orders, etc.

The graphics and artwork are top notch for being based on watercolor prints and anime style design. Character development is very good and not overdone.

I would almost say I would have gotten a ps3 just to play this and the new Final Fantasy game when it comes out (albeit its a large purchase).

Sorry, but after having finished VC, I don't think I'd tell people to buy a PS3 for it. It's a great game, but it has enough flaws. You'll see them later on, methinks.

I really wish I would have picked this up during the $30 sale. I'll have to wait for it to go back on sale. I loved the demo.

Just buy it use, blu-ray doesn't scratch easy unless some dbag put a sander (or children) on it.

Nothing is child proof. I don't care what any marketers claim! Those kids can break into or just plain break anything.

I want to play this but I can't justify buying a PS3 for it. This game looks awesome though

Go to Walmart, buy the PS3, rent Valkyria Chronicles, beat it, return the PS3 for a full refund. Walmart rocks with refunds, so much so that it's easily taken advantage of .. so essentially you'd pay a 300 buck deposit on a free PS3 rental.

During college, I worked EMS for the university and during the summers we were DEAD.. talking 2-3 days without a call .. working 12-14 hour shifts that got old, fast. So we actually found out that Walmart had a 90 day (yeah, 90 day) full refund policy for the PS3/XBox360. We "bought" one of each.. hooked it up to the projector in our conference room, and gamed away all summer and then returned each for a full refund. Was it right? No, probably not. Was it awesome? Yes, yes it was.

Love this game.

couple of issues.

AI is pretty retarded.

Could have had an amazingly fun and unique multiplayer vs. mode.

I will open up the package tomorrow. If the game guide is sealed, I will go on Sat, otherwise, I will head there right away.

VC is all right, but the biggest flaw in the game is that your grade is entirely based on how fast you complete the level. It kind of robs the game of all strategy when the tactic for every map is "rush headlong on every map and complete the objective before all of your guys die."

Also, the story was interesting at first, but it just completely lost my interest after a couple of chapters. No big surprise...it's an anime, after all. 😛

Really? I think that was great. It measures how efficient you are at completing the mission without killing all your guys 😛

Efficient? All of your troops could die except for one, and you'll still get an S rank. It doesn't grade or penalize you at all based on efficiency or strategy...it's purely a speed race.

I picked it up at a local Walmart today. I have several in the area and only one still had it stocked. Their website allows you to search local stores but I found that unreliable. And, yes, it is $20. Great production values....you can tell the developers didn't just throw this together quickly.

wow, you guys bumped my old thread. I ended up finishing the game in about a week...and I loved it. Story and gameplay were top notch! for $20 its silly not to get it

I didn't care too much for the demo so I passed it up myself. The game did get some great reviews. Maybe time to revisit this one...

Hmm I have been looking for RPG's for the PS3 (they seem more scarce than I was expecting), I'll have to give this a try.

Nobody says you HAVE to play that way. I did all the missions "properly" (minimizing casualties or even damage taken) and had a lot of fun. The S/A-rank isn't really worth it at least during the first play through. You get a bit more experience/$ but it's nothing a slight bit of grind won't get you.

The story does have its cringe-worthy moments but overall I'd still rate it pretty good.
