I started using AutoGK a few days ago because using full Gordian Knot was taking too long to set up the VOBs for a good looking avi. AGK does that all automatically, so I can set up multiple jobs in a matter of minutes, go to work, and come back to all the encodes complete.

Things seemed to work great, I encoded a few VOBs from movies in my collection that I ripped a couple of weeks back. It went off without a hitch, video/audio quality was excellent, speed was great, no problems.

So I went to rip two other movies in my collection, Ghost in the Shell 2 and Kung Pow. DVD Decrypter said it needed an update, so I DLed and installed the latest update, specifically 3.5.4.0 and proceeded to rip both DVDs in IFO mode. I setup the jobs using DivX 5, 256bit VBR MP3 and target quality of 75%, and set the subtitles for english on the Ghost in the Shell encode. Then I went to work.

When I came home, I went to check the completed movies. Without even opening them, just selecting them caused windows explorer to crash. Ignoring the error and having them open in both WMP 10 and MPC6.4.8.4 also causes crashes. This occurred repeatedly, I was at a total loss to explain it. I deleted both AVIs since neither would play. Currently, I'm trying Kung Pow again using XviD and AutoGK Beta 2.08 to see if that solves the issue.

Also, I have used the same ripped VOB files so far. If this current attempt fails, I'll likely reDL and reinstall DVD Decrypter and give it another go using DivX 5.

Has anyone else experienced this or can offer insight?

The same problem was displayed using Xvid to encode as well.

So, I uninstalled DVD Decrypter, Xvid, DivX, and AutoGK. Then the ripped VOB files were deleted, followed by reDLing and reinstalling, DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0, DivX 5.2.1 basic, Xvid 1.03, and AutoGK 2.08b. I then reripped the Ghost in the Shell 2 DVD. Since there is no english audio with this DVD, it will also be my first attempt at subtitles. (Late bloomer with subtitles, I know)

I setup AGK to encode at 75% quality, 256bit VBR MP3, using DivX 5.2.1, and started the encode. Also, I changed the file directory where the previous attempts took place. Hopefully, I will get more luck now.

The plus side is that my P4 3.4E takes just over an hour to encode a DVD with those settings, usually around 4o to 50fps, so I don't have to wait too long before I get my answer. Back in the old days with my OC'ed Celemine 800@1.1Ghz, it would have taken the better part of a day. :(

Edit - Same problem STILL occurrs. I'll try it with the full Gordian Knot, see what happens then.
