Not trying to thread crap OP, the build looked nice but that engine is making some weird noises, maybe it's normal for that design, IDK..

What specifically do you hear? A normal VW does sound unique if it's having problems even more so.

It sounds like an aircooled veedub to me. But it does seem to be vibrating a bit excessively. It's hard to tell if it's actually a mild miss, bad timing, or something else that would cause that.

My initial thought was simply aircooled + decent-sized cam = typical noise but with some lope. When I scrutinize those videos, though, it does seem like it should smooth out more when you start to rev it up.

But as far as being attuned to engines...inline and V-shaped gas engines are what I can, like, 'engine whisper' to. With your standard V8 or I6 diesel, its far less-so.

And aircooled boxer engines come way below that. Heh. "Sounds okay to me!" *ejects rod*

The part you see beneath the passenger side fender is the exhaust. I need to secure it. It had to be modified to not hit the fender and in doing so the support strap doesn't reach anything.

It does have a miss if I rev it and I think it's the distributor itself. The timing wanders all over the place. It didn't do that with my other distributor. However, I'll try to rebuild my 3rd and see if it's any different or get a new module for the one I cooked. That's the least expensive route.

Camshaft is slightly hotter than stock but pretty mild I think.

I still need to dial in the carburetors. There's probably a lot to be done here. I've got a bung welded in for an O2 sensor, I just need to get the wideband system built.
