I received the motherboard, cpu yesterday

MB is an Asus z-87 A

CPU is Intel Pentium G3220

memory is g. skill DDR3

I began to put it together. Installed the cpu and fan to the MB and then put the MB into the case and connected the PS.

Issue #1
ATX power connections 8-pin EATX12V and 24 pin EATXPWR. The power supply I have, Antec trupower 2 has the 24 pin but only has a 4 pin connector for the EATX12V. Will this work?

I tried plugging the 4 pin to the 8 pin connector and it does fit so looking at the pin out of that connector it shows multiple 4 12 volt designated pins.

Issue #2
I turn the PS on with the PS switch the fans begin to turn immediately. In my experience the fans should only come on after pressing the on button at the front of the case.

I am able to go into the BIOS without problem.

Issue# 3
The SSD i have is loaded with win 7 32 bit. since the MB is a 64 bit will it even attempt to boot to this SSD? Because when i try to let it go to windows, and it does begin show the 4 color dots coming together it reboots by itself.

any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Issue number 2 is probably related to issue #1. Is the PS fan still a problem? If so, do you need to turn on the computer via button to access the BIOS?

Issue number 3 depends.

1. Either a 64- or 32-bit OS will run on your new hardware. Your BIOS may have an option to tell it if you are running a 64- or 32-bit OS, so make sure to check that before booting off a drive.

2. An existing OS running on a new system is iffy. If you have not done any prep work on the OS before making the switch, the general rule is: Intel to Intel is usually fine, AMD to AMD is usually fine (possibly a little more iffy), and AMD to Intel probably will not boot unless you have uninstalled devices beforehand.

The SATA mode configuration also probably needs to be set to AHCI in the BIOS also while you are in there.

Update: so last night just to prove the computer is working correctly I booted up into a live version of Linux mint. I was able to shut down the computer from the OS BUT immediately upon shutdown the computer restarted by itself. As the CPU fan came to a stop for a brief moment it restarted. Not sure what this means yet. and in another posy i mentioned if the power button is pressed and held this should cause a shutdown and it does not happen. Not sure why.

I have another power supply to try tonight with the 8 pin EATX12V to see if the problem comes from trying to use a 4 pin connector.

Let us know how it goes, as it does sound like that could be the culprit.

This problem is solved..only needed to read the manual to know that either the 4 pin or 8 pin connector will work. :whiste:

:whiste: I misconnected the header, the on switch was not connected to the right pins. :whiste:

I will need to reinstall windows to solve this..maybe a repair install will work and i will try this tonight.

any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Life goes on.
