suggest you look in msconfig & uncheck any Mcafee related programs!
did you do a proper uninstall of the program via add|remove programs when "you took it off" or did you just delete the program folder?
seems like you'll have to manually remove the remaints to get rid of it all!

Here's how I handled a similar situation. My PC was trying to load the drivers for a sound card I had uninstalled long ago, so I had to take that out of my startup command list. This is going to sound remarkably similar to the days of Win3.1 and DOS...

Using NotePad, open, in no particular order, C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT, C:\CONFIG.SYS, and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI. Now, assuming you're a smart person, you ought to be able to figure out, from looking through them, which commands belong to McAfee VirusScan and which do not. Before you edit, save a copy of all three files and then delete the commands for McAfee. IF THIS DOES NOT WORK WHEN YOU RESTART YOUR COMPUTER, REPLACE THE EDITED FILES WITH THE BACKUPS AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!!!!!!! If it does work, however, test as many programs and devices as you care to, and if it is all good, then congratulations, you're a system programmer :)

Those 20 "C:\" prompts are "<enter>" blank entries in the autoexec.bat file.

You should be able to back space up to the very last line that had anything, save the file.

or...

just add "@ECHO OFF" at the top of your autoexec.bat file.

Ummmm reformat and reinstall windows, i know i know its not something you want to do.
When this happens does it come up in window? Is there a file name at top of window? If yes do a find (file name) and if it finds it ,there should be path listed (C:/PROGRAMS/ blah blah whatever it is).Don't know if ur seeing a name tho.
