Ok i've just got a new Motherboard...(P43T-A2 EliteGroup) and a new CPU (E8500 Intel Core 2 duo) and hooked everything up...pluged everything in..and when i turned it on for the first time..it acted like it was about to start...like stutterd (fans moved for 2 seconds) and then stoped..and about 2 seconds later..it kicked in and ran perfectly fine...I'm even on it right now..but I turn it off..and it won't turn back on UNLESS i unplug it and drain all power from it (when the lights go off) and then plug it back in...then it will do the stutter thing again..and then kick in...happens everytime.

Thanks,
Bus.

From your first post it sounds like you've got Windows up and running (assuming that's your OS of choice). I have literally just been addressing this problem on my own new build - different kit though. Boots okay the first time, but shutdown from Windows and then it wouldn't start again when the power button was pushed.

In this "dead" state it wouldn't start again. . .unless I held the power button down for 5 seconds (as if doing a hard power-off) and then pressed power. Then it would start.

I went back to another Windows install I had for this machine on another hard disk (I've been messing for some time), and it had no problem restarting after a shutdown. . . . so it's a software issue. Which is mental, but okay. I figure it must've not been shutting down properly, even though all the fans and PSU appeared to have stopped.

Did a system roll-back which removed the latest .NET framework update, and AVG. Now the system works as it should. I figure it may be some software update for either AVG or .NET which has been causing the issue. If you have either of these on your machine, at least consider the possibility. If it's an update which has just been pushed out and affects some hardware, it's not unlikely that lots of people could be dealing with this issue at the moment.

okay, boy do I feel stupid now. My machine is upset because I have 4 SATA drives plugged in, and gets bored of starting. The software thing fitted all the facts but it wasn't the only variable I changed.

Yep, definitely the 4 SATA drives thing. Until I installed a PCIe graphics card instead of using on-board VGA. Then it works fine. Thankyou Gigabyte, your board is bizarre.

My most sincere appologies for spamming your thread. I was only trying to be useful - maybe there's a chance that some of the random crap I've tried will be helpful.

The stuttering when it starts is pretty normal. My last 4 motherboards did that out of the box
