Start Up Error on XP

Hi Guys

I am getting a strange error on start up (half the time) on boot up.

Has anyone seen this message before ? I started to get it after I installed a budget PCI ATI card in. The machine has to be restarted and 8/10 will load up into windows and act fine.

Error message here,

It can't be drivers since it happens before windows right ? I did a bios update and that still hasn't cured it.

This is not my machine so I will try and get more details.

Cheer guys

Sounds like a timing problem. Check in the BIOS to see if you can alter any of the video settings (eg, PCI/VGA Palette Snoop: This feature is typically used by video add-on cards, such as MPEG encoders. They do not have their own color palette, so they must borrow or "snoop" the palette from the system's video card. If, like most people, you do not have a secondary video device plugged into the video card, this setting should be set to Disabled).

Once booted, back off on your video settings (eg, use 60hz refresh) then carefully work your way up.

Cheers C1, will try when I'm next over on Sunday, will report back, if no joy may buy her a cheap card and see what happens.

There was no 'PCI/VGA Palette Snoop' options in the bios, only an option asking if i wanted PEG or PCI, I changed it from PEG to PCI but the machine still comes up with the same error?
