Most expensive set I ever got was the $230-ish space station mono-rail set. It was cool, but didn't go fast enough. What I really wanted was the earth train. Sigh... maybe I'll go buy it now for shits and giggles.

$500 is way too much for that. Even the castle sets weren't that expensive. And pirate ships...
 
Woah that is insane. It's cool and all but I would be able to spend that money on something way better.

When I was a kid my favorite legos were the basic brick ones. You could do so much with just those alone. The "kit" ones are too specialized and you can't use the pieces as easily in different construction.

(as of 2007) if all the Lego bricks ever produced were to be divided equally among a world population of six billion, each person would have 62 Lego bricks

I got the same Lego star destroyer as this guy: http://kazza.id.au/10030/ I did get it for about half off from Amazon a couple years ago. It's a pretty awesome set. If I had a ton of money I'd get the $500 millennium falcon but I admit it'd mainly be a display piece.

Maybe. I use to get them for Hubby for birthdays and Christmases. I wanted to get him the Death Star and Jabba's Sail Barge but they discontinued them before I could get one. I looked on ebay for them, but the prices were too jacked.

But yea Lego is amazing, best toy I had as a kid. I had a mad collection of different sets, underwater aqua stuff, mars discovery kits, alien base kits, space shuttle kit, etc. At one point I combined all my stuff together to make a giant city that took up my entire rooms floor, all connected, complete with buildings, gas stations, houses etc. I then had my hot wheels cars in the city, rolling around, and my electric CN Rail train kit intergrated into it all, it was the best shit ever.

My kids will be def playing with Lego, now I just wish my mom didn't give away all my toys to some bastard kid a few floors below me. That fucker!
 
On a side note, do you guys know if any Lego sets are worth some descent cash these days? Any rare sets out there etc?

Interesting to see how LEGO has evolved. Now they have LEGO "Toy Stories." Oh the irony. The founder is probably rolling in his grave. This is why I hate this generation of kids. Their minds are shaped by TV, parents have no idea that TV is making their children a bunch of mental and emotional retards.

That said, the Pirates theme is awesome, I'm glad they finally revived it. Their Viking theme was cool, except that it had Vikings in Horned Helmets, which is annoying. I thought it was cleared up Vikings never had horned helmets. Morans.

They are the ultimate in re-usable. Because every set, wether its star wars, Indiana jones, Castle, pirates, city, harry potter, etc, are all built with standard sized, compatible parts.

When we were kids, me and my brother would combine a dozen or so of our castle and pirate kits to make MEGA castles. We never made the same castle twice.

This use to be the case but they have moved away from that with their hollywood themed sets.

No way man, it was sick. At a point I even had all my action figures, and every single toy intergrated into parts of the city. I had that thing on my floor for months and had to tip toe besides the wall just to get to my bed lol.

I remember that one. I always remembered wanting it, but the Castles really got me excited the most. And the pirates. Anything pertaining to history really.

What was the mono rail piece made of?



edit: btw, I still have all my LEGOs. Not in the same sets though, the LEGO pieces got mixed up a LONG time ago. Which is just as well imo. The standard sets were annoying and mainstream.

I'd be erecting dark age forts and stockades and had no use for instructions.

You mean the set, tracks or train?

Tracks were plastic with a center-rail with teeth for the motor on the train to latch onto and propel the train. Operated on a D battery.

Space station had one thin, injection molded base. The rest were custom-to-the-set trusses and supports for the rails. Not many individual, buildable pieces.

I also mixed up most of my lego pieces, They use to go in a big basket, which effing cockroaches use to get into. I still cringe thinking about the one I accidentally picked up while building something with. *shudders*

🙁 I always wanted the space station monorail set. I did get a cargo train set which was cool though. I even figured out you could tap into the rails to get power for the lego lights I had. It sucks now that they removed the powered rails and the train runs on a battery.
