Hi,

Don't know where else to search for, so I'm asking this here:

I have two different computers, both with Win XP Pro.

On both computers, I have classig start-menu, and drag-dropped "My Computer" to start menu for easy access.

On one computer, It lists ok, and doesn't expand to the right, showing contents of my computer (hard drives, ...).

On the other, it has an "expand-arrow" to the right, and when I move the mouse over the option, it opens a sub-menu showing the contents of "My Computer". How can I prevent this? I don't want it to expand the "My Computer", it's just there for me to click ...

Anyone knows how to do it?

If you right-click the task bar or start button and go to Properties, you should see an option to "Expand My Computer" under the Advanced settings.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see that under W2K. Here's what I've got under Advanced Options:

Expand Control Panel
Expand My Documents
Expand Network and DU Connection
Expand Printers

Hmm, sorry, I wrote that based on memory. My work computer is a 2000 machine, so I can't check my XP box to verify.

I'm such a dumba$$. I forgot to realize I'm at work and not at home, and I checked it on a W2K system. I have no idea what options are under XP....until I get home tonight.

Personally, I add "My Computer" was a QuickLaunch toolbar (right-click on taskbar -> "Toolbars..." -> "New Toolbar..." -> My Computer). After shrinking the new toolbar to its smallest footprint (only tile is showing with the double arrows, I now have two-click access to every file on my system.

Same options apply on XP, and both each computer has a different way of dealling with "My Computer" link.

I use that feature too, but mainly to quickly access apps and specific directories, but I prefer to put a quicker link on start menu for "My Computer", since I use keyboard "Start" key, and quickly click "My Computer" then, which happens to be the top choice.

BTW, I use classic windows layout, don't like the crappy blue XP default ... personal taste here.

Any more ideas? Thanks so far ;)
