Stark Warning for US Military on Post War Iraq from Iraqi Opposition

For some reason the whole situation with post war Iraq that has been more and more developed over the past week as the US reveals its plans reminds me of that scene in "The Empire Strikes Back" where Lando talks about his deal with the Empire for the Cloud City.

Something like :

Lando: "This deal keeps getting worse and worse"
Vader: "Pray I don't alter it any more, perhaps a permament garrison of stormtroopers"

LOL. But really I'll be pissed if these people are given the only real chance they have at change in Iraq and tell an allied coalition of troops to buzz off. Likely result is they wrestle for power and can't organize anything properly anyway without external support.

Iraqis as a whole aren't religious enough/poorly educated are too well educated/etc. to really go for a theocratic state.

plus I doubt if the Northern kurds would really go for another religious tyranny

any country that has a state religion is tyrannical in my opinion, especially when led by someone as merciless as the militaristic wacko that is heading the country now.

I don't think Iran was that religious or poorly educated in the 70's either. I think chances are hight that we will be fighting the people we "liberate".
Shiites want to lean towards Iran, Kurds towards creation of Kurdistan. Both of these are against US and NATO interests. Before you know it we will have to be the opressors to keep Iraq from falling apart. Right now the glue that holds Iraq together is Saddam Hussein. Removing him is like removing priming pin from a grenade. Soon as you let it go, it blows up.

The only reason we're going to war is on Israel's behest and for oil, greed, and money. No other reasons. ("Yes Mr. Sharon. I will obey your every word. The US is at your command oh great dread lord.")

WOW, for once in these forums, an excellent comparison! *applause*

The thing is, the government of post-war Irak, will be american, it will stay that way until there is a united opposition, that would be somewhere around the year 7000... If everything goes as planned....

Armenia and Azerbajan, Chechnya, many other examples. Soon as secular dictatorship is weakened, these so called "secular" societies erupt in religious strife. They never really are secular. They just hide their religiousness more. And they put their ethnic/religous strifes on hold for a while, and resume later.

No they are going to be too busy fighting the Turkish Troops that will advance into Northern Iraq to prevent the Kurds from setting up an Autonomous Government

Remember, this guy is Mohammed Baqir al-Hakim, leader of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq. That sounds uncomfortably close to the Islamic Revolution in Iran, and MSNBC bills them as the largest opposition group in Iraq.

Iraq's borders are artificial, and do not represent the interests of the people inside them. Perhaps they should be redrawn. (Not that that would ever happen, but it's a thought..)

lol! Yeah, pretty much. I think Hussein's opposition is in for a surprise that it won't be allowed to have absolute power to 'mold' Iraq in the way it wants. I would like to think the US has learned that the 'enemy of your enemy' isn't always your friend. We will cooperate with them for short-term expediency, but hand the reins of Iraq over to them to do as they please? Sorry, no.
