Starforce question

So I just got Starforce installed on my machine with a game I recently bought, and I quickly remembered all the hoopla about Starforce causing havok and people generally hating it, so I decided to look it up, both here and google... and came across horror stories about Starforce messing stuff up. So I removed the game and Starforce altogether, without playing any of it. :disgust:

So at this point I have two questions:

How true are the stories about starforce kicking down burners from dma to pio mode, and then permanently gibbing them because they ran in pio mode for extended periods of time?

If I "completely" removed starforce following the directions here, how sure can I be that it is really gone? I used the removal tool, and then checked through my registry and drivers directory.

Man, good thing the game was bargain bin, but I'm seriously peeved. Thanks!

I've installed a couple of Starforce games with zero problems. I do have both a DVD-ROM reader and a burner in my system though, and use the reader for games.

I think you're overreacting in denying yourself the fun of playing a game you've already paid for just because 0.01% of people who install Starforce protected games have issues.

Meh, I do hope the reports have been over exaggerated, but with so many people saying scary stuff about it, it's hard to ignore the paranoia ;P

Starforce raped my wife...

Seriously, I have it installed for X3 and haven't experienced a single issue.

I have a game that came with Starforce included. I followed the removal instructions to get rid of Starforce... and the game still runs without a hitch. So try it out and it just might work.

So you got rid of it all just because other people are having problems with it???

I say put it back and play the hell out of it. If you notice anything odd with your system following that then go ahead and say fvck Starforce, but often things like that are exaggerated by people.

Usually if the game installs SF and you remove it, it'll just install it again since its required.

Neither my Dell XPS2 nor my home-made AMDX2 PC has any issues with Starforce. That being said, I do support the anti-Starforce movement in entirety. That thing is way too invasive the way it works. I was tipped off when they asked me to reboot my PC - when I installed the game. I knew something was wrong. This was Tom Clancy Splinter Force Chaos Theory.
