I'm gone for a copule of hours and this thread explodes!

A couple of RTSs (From that era) that are better include Red Alert and TA.

A typical starcraft LAN game last about 5, maybe 10 minutes. It's just spam a certain unit and rush them while building more and more farms and SCVs. You don't even GET to play with any of the advanced units. If both players are talented, a 1v1 game may last 15 minutes top. A game of Red Alert, with two talented players, can last hours with neither side getting a serious advantage. A game of TA could theoretically last DAYS. Everyone tried to tank rush in TA when they first got and relaized the problem of leaving scrap at your enemy doorstep is really bad for your side so Tank rushing was alomst eliminated. In RA, Tank Rushing was a viable strategy but a talented player could stop it pretty easily.

In starcraft, it's just rush this and rush that and it is just a flat out who can get the resources first.

If i had to rank the AIs in the three games, it would be 1)TA 2)RA 3)SC.

The single player plot in SC was dumb, Red Alert was entertaining, and I liked the TA plot.

-Those horrible looking CGI cutscenes were painful to look at even back then. I felt like I was watching an episode of Babylon 5.

-The Units in RA were so much more fun to play with. Can a stupid bunker even compare to the awsomeness of a Tesla Coil? TA had soooo many units it was rediculous.

-For every one unit you build in SC you can build a dozen in RA or TA, it gives that whole war aspect of the game a much more real feel. I don't like going into battle with 10 soldiers and a couple of tanks and easily being able to over run their base.

-SC Missions; Build Bae, blow up Other guy or defend base against RUSH

-RA Mission: Build Base, Defend Base, Escort Missions, "On Foot" Missions (where you only get a limited number of infintry to beat a level", etc.

TA's AI sucked. The custom Killer AI kicked my ass though.

An RTS with Good AI Doesn't Exist. 🙂 It's all relative.

I can easily beat TA's AI with mass air domination, but I usually have to rush or bunker in to beat Starcraft's AI.

I find starcraft to be a very enjoyable game even today. The good RTS games that have come since like C&C Generals and Art of War where great to play but got old after beating them. SC staying good even years later.

starcraft still pwns yes. and its amazing how long the makers of c&c stuck to their inferior interface just out of bitterness towards blizzard lol🙂
