Starcraft: Resolutions...

Well... I felt like re-installing Starcraft the other day... but I was painfully reminded that there is no way to adjust resolution in this game... Is there some mod/patch/or manner of trickery by which you can get the resolution over 640x480? I would have sworn I used to know of something that did the trick, and I've done some searching over Google, but everything has come without an answer... Perhaps someone here knows? Much obliged!

I doubt it. Even if you could bump the resolution, because SC is a 2D game, increasing the resolution would make the game extremely blocky and look very poor.

Well, no. It's about making the screen bigger. So you can see more.

I would have made the same post (except for the Korean family bit).

+1

Though I found WarCraft 3 entertaining, I don't think there has ever been a better RTS than StarCraft.

And yes, I still play it every few weeks, even to this day.

I still like it because the map maker is simple yet robust.
Its where I started learning about scripts. I can do all sorts of neat stuff in there that I cant even try with other RTS games.

I would love to bump up the resolution. But I think we may just have to wait for Starcraft 2 instead.

The last blizzard games were disappointing. I don't expect much from them. There was just no innovation of concept.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to change the resolution to something higher.

what about running the game in windowed mode and not full screen? Any solution to this?

False. Have you ever loaded up the SC campaign editor? It runs at your desktop resolution and looks awesome. I really don't see why the can't update it; it would look much nicer on today's giant displays.

In order to get proper scaling they'd need to run Starcraft through 3D. It wouldn't be that hard to do but I doubt Blizzard can be bothered.

Wow! Thanks for all the activity, folks. I figured my post was lost to the ages.

It was actually because of having the desktop resolution available in the editor that I figured there must be some way to go about it... I don't know of any way to run it in windowed mode, but you'd think there would be a .dll or something that you could edit a bit to change that up. Anyhow, I don't know, and that's why I'm asking, but it's not sounding like it can be accomplished.

Oh... and sorry that there is no SC2: Resolutions :)
Now that I read the title, I can very easily see where you got that impression... but I thought I had heard they were working on something...

Considering a large proportion consider Starcraft to be the best RTS to ever grace the PC, Im suprised a Mod Team hasnt formed to redraw everything at higher resolutions. Surely there are some mods for it too. I cant imagine it being THAT hard for a determined group of enthusiasts.

Personally, Im a Dune2/C&C Fan but Starcraft/Warcraft both strike me as high quality games for their time and quite enjoyable today but what restricts my SC enjoyment the most is graphics, secondly its problems with dual monitors.

I bet someone has done it and we dont know about it.

Nope. WC3 was good and good looking though.

I'd pay full-game price just for a resolution update to Starcraft. Love the game that much, and fear what could possibly be a disappointment in the sequel. Wasn't it X-Wing where they released a newer version with higher resolutions? Got that as part of a collectors pack I believe, and was pleasantly suprised.

lol i also thought there was a new Starcraft game called 'resolution' :) we can only hope. I agree with Bateluer that an increase in resoultion would probably result in blocky looking figures. Starcraft > Warcraft, any day

Wow... I guess I shouldn't be suprised... but I'm impressed nonetheless. My highest hopes that those folks don't lose their drive!

One disadvantage of allowing higher resolutions is that the game becomes unfair - people with higher-resolution screens can see more, and gain an advantage as a result.

And that is very true, but I'm not looking to play over B.Net or anything. Though, as BFG10K said, there are ways aroung that too if they like.
