Starcraft on win2k/xp LAN

I know this is an old game, but it's one of my favorites. 😛 The problem that I am having is that I cannot join games created on my LAN. It's just a simple network, all hooked up through a 3com hub. What happens is that either I see the game very briefly when it is created, or I can see it and it says cannot join game. Anyone have any ideas??

I had the same problem. I had to disable the other network adaptor that I wasn't using. Now I can join in LAN multiplayer games using IPX/SPX.

You might not have the IPX protocol installed, try installing it on all of the computers on your network

I have the IPX protocol installed. It won't work when I try to connect only two computers via the hub as well. Thanks though. Does anyone have any other ideas?

yes it does. I was playing 3 player starcraft with my brothers and we share a cable modem. What it does is, it makes the computer you install it on, a battle.net server. There's a client program you download off the same page that lets you input the LAN battle.net server's IP so the clients can connect to it. It uses TCP/IP (like the real battle.net) so you don't even have to deal with IPX.

I have WinXP and cable modem with d-link router. I have no problems with IPX on the LAN or TCP/IP for hosting batlenet games. The only thing I have to do is open the ports on my router to host Battlenet games. The LAN uses IPX however, and I have had no problems playing on my LAN with WinXP, Win2000 and WinMe. I can even play with my son who has a wireless connection to my computer via 802.11b D-link access-point.
