Starcraft game coming soon ?

I saw the first line and lost interest.
Dont wanna be a wet blanket here but Blizzard has been "hinting" at a new Starcraft for a long time now.

"soon" would be a strech. Its Blizzard afterall, and they definitely don't rush to get things out the door. They worked on Starcraft: Ghost for years, eventually gave it to another developer to finish, and then canceled it.

I think its fairly well accepted that "Starcraft 2" is in development right now at Blizzard, but I wouldn't expect to see it for awhile since they haven't even announced its existence yet.

There is absolutely no way that Starcraft 2 can live up to fan expectation/anticipation. My guess is it's going to be like Warcraft 3: a decent game by it's own right but failed to meet the expectation of WC2 fans. SC2 will meet the same fate.

Blizzard already canceled two games: a Warcraft Adventure game and Starcraft Ghost. The former, Blizzard realized that people do not play that sort of game anymore. The latter, most likely, Blizzard axed due to competing FPS. Blizzard has no experience in making FPS and yet they would have to go against Halflife 2, Farcry, Quake 4, and the likes. Quality Control knew ahead of time it was going to bomb so Blizzard pulled the plug as to not risk their reputation.

I'm sure SC2 development is going through a lot of scrutiny right now because Blizzard has a lot to live up to.

heh, i just find it funny that after saying all that their QC didn't pull out from the MMORPG world. I don't necessarly think its a reputation they want, basically what will generate the most $$. Not that there is anything wrong with that 🙂

I find this funny as well. I love hearing all the people bitch about Blizzard, but yet they still somehow manage to squeeze in their 8 hours a day of WoW.

edit: lol, even funnier that the poster who has a link to their BF2 stats in their sig wants to talk about quality control.

OMG I SO EXITED WTF CANT WAIT BIG SC FAN!! WOO! 😀

Ive waited patiently for the next c&c and theyre delivering it. Ive waited patiently for the next sc, hopefully it will be delivered too. I got sc when i was just a poor lil boi back in 98, it was the most amazing game to grace my PII 333mhz with 64mb ram. Its still my most played game today, no other single game comes close to sc in perfection.

Why would they want to pull out from a very popular genre? Especially when they knew WoW was different enough and easier to play than the competitors. If they felt WoW was inferior to the competitors I'm sure QC would pull the plug.

Reputation and generating money goes hand in hand. It determines how well future products sell. Maintaining a good reputation is important in ensuring success for a company.

A new Starcraft game?

Not with TBC being released today and Blizzard milking the snot out of it, it ain't.

Yep. With the bank they are making on the WoW phenomenon, I'm sure they'd feel completely stupid by releasing a regular game that doesn't require an ongoing fee.

who says I'm bitching? idiot. Believe me I think Blizzard is one of the greatest software developers out there. I've never played WoW and never will.

One of Blizzard's gold-encrusted execs has said that he "hopes" there will be another StarCraft game in the near future.

The evil french overlords that own Blizzard (Vivendi) will probably not allow anymore nonMMOs to come from Blizzard after WoW.

Odd, I thought the main reason Blizz pulled the plug on Ghost was because it was taking too long to develop. It was an Xbox1 game, and was in development for almost the entire length of time the Xbox was MS's premiere console. They axed it because of the nextg en consoles' superior visual capabilities.

Others have said it already though, we won't be seeing another SC game for a long time. Unless its another MMO, its not going to happen. Dang shame too. 🙁

If Starcraft 2 came out right now, I'd drop all my classes and devote my life to it.

Good thing it's not out yet.

As long as Blizzard is making money from World of Warcraft, it will drag it's heals on everything. Including SC2 and D3 :|

Blizzard is simply a bunch of lazy fata$$es who found a cash cow and are sticking with it. Kinda like most rich rap artists.

If they...

1. Don't make the game ugly like Warcraft III
2. Make a section for DOTA games just like there are sections for CTF, 4v4, etc
3. Add more to the same formula they've been using since Warcraft II

Then I will gladly dedicate another 5000 or so hours of my life to Battle.net. However, Blizzard has sucked lately so that probably will not happen.

It should also be mentioned that almost everyone who worked in SC, and D1&2, no longer works at Blizzard. They're scattered across dozens of different developers. GW and Hellgate London were both/are developed by former Blizzard North Diablo1&2 guys. A lot of talented people left Blizzard during the development of WoW, only soulless corporate suits work there now.

Where did the starcraft crew from 98 actually go? Ive never heard a word about where they dissapeared to. Did they leave as a group or what?

<snip>

Don't read into my post too much. It's pretty much my opinion. I don't know what the official reason why Ghost was cancelled.

Read carefully, he's agreeing with you and not calling you anything.

I still feel the only reason WC3 and for the most part any new rts games are disappointing is that Empire Earth (the first one) set the bar too high. It came out right before WC3 and was such a great RTS being the first to span multiple time periods in a single game. It has been copied many times since then and there have been a few twists introduced that still make RTS games fun, but that one just set the bar way too high for any game. Obviously WC3 had story as blizzard puts in all of their RTS games which still feels lacking from some of the other competitors.
