Hi

i hope this is the right forum for this question. if not, i am sorry

anyway,

I just got the game starcraft/broodwar and i signed on to battle.net.

my brother has been playing for a long time now.

I wanted to play a game with just him but whenever one of us creates the game, the other one cannot join.

It says " The creaters latency is to high"

We both can join other ppls game just fine.

I am on roadrunner using a D-link604 router.

We both can play SWG together and xbox and ps2 games together fine.

anyone have an idea of what the problem is?

I have alrdy looked through b.net and blizzard help threads and FAQs but i didnt find anything

NEW PROBLEM:

Ok so far me and my bro can both connect and play together fine.

but when we try to play with other ppl, it lags like crazy. like we cant even move.
It only happens when we r in the same game together with other ppl. even if it is just one person.

Anyone got any idea on how to fix this problem?

TIA

Most likely your router/firewall isn't allowing for b.net's game port, which is 6113. Try port forwarding that port or turning off xp firewall. If you can't turn off the hardware firewall then you're pretty much out of luck. =/

You can't play on the same server (East, West etc.) using the same IP. You'll have to use another IP if you want to play together.

Yeah i like it.

It think it is alot better then warcraft 3. warcraft is war to slow and i think it is stupid how a hero can kill like 20 regular units.

I got starcraft at bestbuy for like 5 bucks on a sale. I think normally it is only 10.

With my SMC router, I just put one of the computers in the DMZ. It worked fine for me. Hope this helps.

isnt it really dangerous to mess with DMZ?

i thought it opens u to worms and hackers and stuff like that. Like a last resort was to mess with DMZ.

what settings do u suggest?

thx

You don't have to put it in permanently. I just put one of them in the DMZ only when I played Starcraft and then removed it from the DMZ.

There are also some Battle.net settings for the Special Applications part of your router but I never got that part working. If you want to give it a shot, here are the settings that are required for my SMC router.

Trigger port: 6112
Trigger type: UDP
Public port: 6112
Public type: UDP
Comment: Battle.net

Hope this helps.

You and your brother cannot play in the same game with other people. It is ok to play just between you two because the router can route internal IP addresses correctly. Yet in WAN multiplayer games, the server sends packets to your external IP address and your router doesn't not know who to send the packets to, that is why you lag (you only get parts of the packets).

You can forward the port to one of the computer, but the other will never receive data... DMZ won't help, since the computer not on DMZ will not get the data. Anyway, as stated above, the only way to fix this with Starcraft/Broodwar is to get another IP address. Warcraft 3 will work because it has a new network protocol and can change ports. SC/BW does not.

Have fun!
