Hey, I didnt really know where else to post it.. so here it is...

I cannot play games, but I can chat in starcraft. It says I either have a poor Internet connection (not) or Im not processing UDP packets correctly, and I need to open port 6112. Im running behind a router, and I don't think Ive ever played this game behind my router before. Any ideas? Do I gotta disconnect my router to play? :(

What kind of router? With most routers, it's pretty easy to go in and change the settings to open a port. Just set it to forward all traffic from the port to your machines IP address on the network

Charter Communications is my Cable provider.

The router is a Linksys D-link DI-604

How do I go in an open a port? Step by step, Im rather noob with networking.

I'd call D-Link and ask them how to open that port if it's closed onthe router. And maybe even the provider to see if it's closed on the cable modem if it's a seperate device

If it is a linksys router, then its easy. I am assuming you've used the software to configure the router before, so you know how to access the control screen from your browser. You just need to find the "Forwarding" tab, and then enter the port you wish to open, and the address of your computer on your network.

I can get to the control screen just fine thru my browser, but I haven't seen a forwarding tab. I have however found a tab where it looks like I can open specific ports.. and it has me designate whether its UDP or other types... and then there are a few other things I gotta do that are a bit confusing.. Any ideas?

Ok Im looking at it. Do I want to open this port as a public or private port?

It asks for a name... does that name matter?

Also
it asks for Private IP... thats what my computers IP is on the network right?

there should be a port forwarding section to your dlink app.

you want to forward port 6112 to the ip address of your game machine.

ok here it is.

go to the Advanced tab. you will see settings for virtual server.

click enable

give it a name: "Battlenet" for example.

give it an ip address: IpAddress of your PC

give it a public port: 6112

give it a private port: 6112

schedule: always

finally click apply.

that should do it for you.

I set protocol type to UDP right? Im assuming so? Also do I set the IP of my computer on the network... or my router with the cable company?
