Starcraft 2

I was at EB games the other day and the guy at the counter asked if I wanted to preorder anything..... I saw SC2 on SEPT '08, could they know something that the SC2 website isnt telling us? He said i could preorder it, but then... its more than a year away!

After what WoW has become I won't be buying another Blizzard game. Their talent left and formed Flagship Studios.

People could pre-order Duke Nukem Forever at one point too. No reason to buy into preorders that far into the future.

I don't get the whole 'pre-order' thing anyway - unless the store is offering some major incentive for giving them your money well in advance, I'd rather just wait for the sales around the release date. It's not like the game won't be readily available then (but maybe that's just around me, with ~10 electronics retailers within about 10 miles).

Unless the game has a rock solid release date, the only thing you're doing by putting your money down is letting them earn interest on your $10 FOR OVER A YEAR... IT ADDS UP....

I only get a preorder of a game if the store offers a demo or something that makes the loss of 10-15 dollars for a month worth it. I know that the Prince of Persia sequel came with an art book and that Ratchet and Clank: UYA came with a demo. I've yet to see anything like that be offered for a PC game unless it's some freaking 60-75 dollar special edition one.

The people who left were part of the team that worked on Diablo. The team that is doing SC2 is mostly the people who did Warcraft3, so if you want to preach premature doom and gloom about how terrible SC2 is going to be, you should really be judging it to WC3 instead. 😉

WC3 is poop next to starcraft. so the real question is - is the same team that made SC1 doing SC2?

I've seen a really long demo/gameplay video of SC2, and it looks AWESOME. It is VERY much like SC1, but with 3D graphics and some new (very interesting) units. It is amazing how similar in many ways it will be to the original. Def check out some videos before judging it!

Lol and with all the cash they are making with WOW they would not be able to hire talented replacements?

I believe the people who did WC3 also did brood war. Does that help?

I liked WC3 it wasn't quite as addicting as SC but it was a great game none the less. I never got around to checking out frozen throne.

A funny test would be to make up a game and a release date and see if EB/Gamestop will take a preorder. If it sounds reasonable, like Simscraft or World of Doom 4, I bet you they'd take your $5 or whatever.

Not every game is gonna be revolutionary. I still like to think War3 did great. And to tell you the truth if they make Starcraft Heroless or not include special units (which it looks like they will include), for me it will lack in game play.

i never got into the whole "hero" RPG mini game that WC3 had going on. i'd much rather be able to field large armies like in starcraft, rather than having 1 footman take up 4 farm spaces

Actually Roper was heavily involved with WoW until he left. Blizzard seems to currently be a company of incompetents riding the wave of an image formed by talent which left.

Well it did royally screwup multiplayer (IMO) but the single player aspect was pretty cool (as the heroes were bonus and didn't take up any "food" much like heroes in SC (although those heroes couldn't be reincarnated and thus losing them meant losing the level and thus you really only could rely on them for defensive purposes). However even single player was kind of ruined because, if you played it right, you could powerup your heroes to the point where they'd be literal juggernauts and it would really detract from the RTS elements that SC had pinned down perfectly. Instead it was more of a RTRPG where it was all about collecting the powerups and using your heroes' abilities to compliment each other and take on hordes of enemies, wiping out bases with relatively little support from lesser units.

Now while I'd love to see / play as Kerrigan going on an unstoppable killing spree in a similar fashion that you could do with Arthas and Illidan when they were at the peak of leveling up, I certainly don't want the game to be focused around that.

it's all about jim raynor + stimpacks.. screw the vulture bike 😛

WoW has some good points but I don't like the recent things done to the game.

I like WC3 but I do find that playing cat and mouse with my hero all the time is much more annoying than fun.

SC is the all-time greatest game of all time. Name another game you can pick up almost 10 years after it was released and still have a great time playing it?

On ebgames it lists the game as being released in Oct. 2008. I hope they don't drop the ball on this one.

To my understanding only a handful of ex-Blizzard left to create Flagship Studios. I'll prolly buy Hellgate London when it comes out.

Exactly.
For MANY years the EB website had a bogus pic of Duke Nukem Forever and the abiltiy to pre-order it but it doesnt look like that game is ever coming out. Meanwhile they have your 50 bucks plus the interest on it.

If you were smart you would have put that 50 dollars in the bank and even with regular savings interest you'd have a lot more money by now.

Like Mursilis said, pre-ordering is silly unless they have cool stuff to go along with it and you KNOW that the game is actually going to come out soon.
Otherwise its just a big scam.

Warcraft 3 would be nothing without heroes. If anything it made the game better. Early stages it proved difficult to balance. They are quite close to balancing it.

There is still that stupid Panda, DH, Warden combo for Night elfs.
