I didn't hear that SC2 would be released on any consoles... is it going to be?

No

WoW kiddies then. ;) Pretty much the same thing. Diluted gameplay to appeal to the masses.
The videos look cool though and showcase a number of interesting features.

The retractable supply depots kinda annoy me though. Didn't placing supply depots at choke points start as exploiting a bug in the AI, where it would just run in a circle outside the depots allowing your tanks/bunkers to cut them to pieces?

And you can probably expect SC2 to make its way onto consoles in some fashion, though it could be some time after its PC release. Same thing happened with SC1.

EDIT: From the SC2 FAQ

Will StarCraft II take advantage of DirectX 10? What other graphical goodies are included?

The game will be compatible with DirectX 10, and we're still considering whether there will be exclusive DirectX 10 graphic effects, but the graphics engine will also be very scalable to ensure that a wide range of different systems will be capable of running StarCraft II. The new engine is also capable of rendering very large units, as well as large numbers of units on screen together. Havok physics have been integrated into the engine for added realism as well.

That says it will be compatible with DX10, not that its DX10 based, and they even say theres no DX10 effects, but they're thinking about it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a modified war3 engine, it does look similar to it. People here act like it must look exactly like war3 to be using the same engine, but for all you know htey used that graphics engine as a base and heavily modified it .

i'm going to try something here...

so why exactly is SC2 going to be the game of the century? SC wasn't that fun imo.

You are a member of a very, very small minority.

Is that something called trolling? Whether or not you thought SC was fun, it should be pretty easy to find out general consensus on the game as one of the best RTS games ever made.

I seriously, SERIOUSLY doubt it will be the game of the century.

It's micro-craziness, which is fine when you want to play micro, but it's not good for any other kind of satisfaction.

I can already tell that Supreme Commander is going to be more enjoyable, especially with the upcoming expansion pack.

Don't get me wrong, I bet SC2 will be fun, I'll end up buying it. But game of the century? Please, not even close. I sure hope it doesn't have the feel of WC3, that game sucked HARD. It was chunky, and it was WAY too micro, even for warcraft.

One more thing, I bet the modding/map editor for SC2 will be INSANE in power and scope. I still remember the fun that was had with the SC map editor and such.... Super fun.

Have to agree with Pontifex, just because a game has sold mass quantities doesn't make it automatically good, just that it appeals to a wide audience and that audience managed to all learn about the game.

I honestly don't think SC2 will be very good, I prefer the style of CoH or DoW far more than the old style of resource and base management.

Arcturus Mengsk was a well-voiced character with some good lines, but most of the characters and dialogue ranged from corny to campy to downright cheesy. If anything, I see the sequel as being more of the same in the story and dialogue department, which is fine; it's a video game.

Is Starcraft slated for release on any of the next-gen consoles? I thought that it was just a PC release...

Sure. I call it the Steven Spielberg Rule; however, I still think that you'd be hard-pressed to argue that Starcraft wasn't a very good game.

Wow, will we be able to drag and drop the unit limit of XX individuals, then proceed to right click them onto enemy units again soon!? Honestly, there is nothing wrong with this formula, but to say it's game of the century is retarded...

Thanks for making it obvious how completely clueless you are when it comes to gameplay in an RTS. StarCraft has one of the biggest skill curves of any RTS and is arguably the best games of all time by many PC gaming enthusiasts. Enough said.

I'll agree that its very hard to prove that its a bad game, but its also very hard to prove its a good game without falling back to the weak reasoning of "lots of people love it so it must be good". The only real point I have eve rheard in SC's favor is that it is a very well balanced game, but I don't feel that alone makes it a good game.

Starcraft is one of the best games ever for several reasons

Engaging Storyline
Great Lines " I'm the Queen Bitch of the Universe"
Best Balancing Ever
Units are actually useful- All Units have a purpose
Great Gameplay- Strategies are prevalent, Micro weeds out players who don't want to learn. Easy to Pick up, hard to master
"Carrier Has Arrived"- 'Nuff Said

Reality is perception. Two people can look at the same 'object/situation/concept' and have entirely different, oftentimes opposing views of its nature/purpose/value.

One man's pain can be another man's pleasure, treasure or trash, etc. Everything, and I do mean everything, is subjective in life. The only absolute is there are no absolutes.

Very well said. If there is one thing I can't stand about SC, its not the game itself, but people who try to force their opinion as an absolute truth.

No offense tenshodo, but storyline and the quotes you posted are all subjective. As much as I loved carriers in SC, that alone doesn't make it a good game. The gameplay really ends up being subjective as well. Plus you kind of contradict yourself, saying that micro weeds out people who don't want to learn, but its simple to pick up. I think it would be more correct to say micro weeds out the good from bad players.

by your definition, there is no such thing as a good game... since there will always be someone who doesn't like it. Good gamer are all subjective, but the more people that like them, the better game it is. If someone made a game that you were the only person in the world who liked, does that make it a good game? no, it is great for you, but it will be considered a bad game if 99% of the gaming population do not like it. That is just how we classify good/bad games.

Maybe it wasn't his fault, but Dustin Browder really screwed up Battle For Middle Earth. I had such high hopes for that game, and it was sh!t. Why should he not ruin this game?

That's all fine and dandy, but what does that have to Starcraft 2? Deus Ex had...

Engaging Storyline
Great Lines "That must make me one ugly son of a bitch."
Maybe not the best balancing ever, but most of the weapons and augmentations are pretty useful
Great Gameplay - A perfect blend of action, exploration, and role-playing
etc etc

Now just look at what happened to Deus Ex 2. Anyone who thinks Starcraft 2 will be the best game in a hundred years despite only a couple of trailers being released and knowledge on the game having been available for only a couple of months is simply a rabid Blizzard fanboy.

as great as deus ex was, it's replayability is NOWHERE near that of starcraft's.

cross-genre comparisons typically do not do well, but i would nonetheless put SC above DE.
