Sorry I have an off-topic question but didn't want to create another SCII thread. Since the game's DRM is an online authentication, does it mean the disc can be copied for backups without any circumvention? I purchased the game and have a legit key, and have my copy tied to a Battle.net account but wanted to make a backup ISO and wondering if I can simply burn it using Nero or Imgburn.

You can actually download the game whenever you want once you've registered your key with battle.net. It seems to work kinda like steam in that regard. I don't think there should be an issue with creating backup copies of your disk either as blizzard even suggests using someone else's game disk to install the game when using a trial key. I guess they don't really care what happens to the game disks really.

I don't see why not. The full game is also available for download on their site, so you could burn that if not.

Yeah, sure no problem. Blizzard even wants you to share. :p

Reaper rush into MMM and then vikings/BC if it lasts that long. It's not boring at all though; I get a bit of an adrenaline rush every time I send them over the wall, not knowing whats above it. They're the best early unit in the game IMO though. Good to deny expansion and rush early as well.
And yes my partner IS zerg lol but he doesn't 6 pool, he builds up a bit like I do and goes in with me. 5 reapers is 10 times more effective than 2 or 3.

Could you give more details on your reaper rush? Do you not move in until you have 5+ or do you move in right away? I've been trying your build, but moving in with 1 or 2 gets me nowhere. What's working nicely for me and my teammate is me building up reapers, hiding them outside their base, and then either moving in if they attack our base or when my teammate moves in to attack (distraction).

Doing 1v1 matches.

I placed gold, didn't touch it for a while and only played 2v2, and am now picking it back up.

1v1 is soooo much different than 2v2. I have to rethink a lot of my strats.

haha yea you can't count on your teammate to help with an early harass, have to be more aggressive on your own, makes things a bit more interesting.

I've decided I have a love/hate relationship with ScrapStation (the one with the giant ass run to the other base but short if you bust the rocks). I love the long run to each others base, pretty much lets me avoid some rush defenses etc, but good god is it a pain in the ass to get reinforcements to my army when I'm making a push.

Hey guys i'm trying to figure out if it's possible to look up people I don't know, or if I can find a list of player names that has their character codes listed afterwards.

For example if I wanted to look up a character named JimBobJane and I know his in game name is JimBobJane, but I don't know what his character code is, what can I do? I know if I can find a list of profiles of people named JimBobJane I could find the one I'm looking for based on his achievements and game history.

I was hoping I could look up forum posts as well by anybody with that name on battle.net but that doesn't work either. It just seems all very cryptic and I can't figure it out (it seems like blizzard can't even figure it out).

I really think Blizzard should come up with a host for replays. Maybe even groups and stuff. I'm sure Anandtech would love their own page.

Fenixgoon versus MasterNeoX is the one where I was bottled in and the guy could have crushed me.

Also, I totally failed at reaper rushing that game.

I'm only about 2 minutes in and the first thing I see you should've done different is using your SCV to attack his SCV that's building the barracks. Doing this leaves him with two choices...

1) Cancel the building and attack your SCV back (terrible choice).
2) Take his SCVs and attack yours (somewhat better choice).

Both choices have negative repercussions for him... the first means he's further behind in his tech and the latter means his economy's been hit.

EDIT:

wow, just watched it, can't believe he lost

From early on in the game if he just got cloak for banshees, he wins. And even by the end of the game, he never did research it.

Can't believe someone would go all match without it . He also kept pulling back for some strange reason... it was pretty obvious Fenix had low air defense, he should've just kept pushing.

EDIT 2:

For some reason, you just kept leaving that flying CC in your base... why didn't you just land it elsewhere (other than your natural)? Craft some SCVs, load the sucker up and go far away :p.

You did well using height to your advantage though... I always forget about that .

my only guess is that, by the time cloak would have been out, i had too many turrets up, so he didn't bother. but yeah, you always get cloak with banshees.

i really wish my reaper rush wasn't so fail D:

I still need to learn reaper rush so I have some kind of tactic for early game with Terran.

Me and you still need to win our 1 or 2 2v2 placement match(s). :D

Thank you I have made a backup copy and can confirm that it works beautifully. Apparently there is no copy-protection on the disc itself.

yeah, basically the DRM works in the sense that the game data is freely available, but you pay for the battle.net account which lets you actually play the game

at least thats how I look at it considering I have downloaded and installed the game several times to a couple different computers and log in to each one with a single bnet account.

Just beat a guy today that was heavily favored to win. Destroyed his team with a strong muta harass of all their expos and bases. Even with AA I managed to outpower them. The guy made a last push with a huge group of battlecruisers but I cut off all 4 of their supply expos with my mutas so while he was taking out my partner's bases, I kept pumping out courruptors.

After the game I checked his profile and he was in Diamond League for all 4 brackets. God that felt good.

You must be playing a different SC game then lol. BC's are freaking awesome.

Of course to really be effective, one must be able to utilize the Yamato cannon well. The YC pretty much gives you a free kill per BC at the start of any fight, and that's pretty huge and can shift the fight in your favor right off the bat.

a group of battlecruisers is pretty fail - every race has a strong counter to it (void rays, corrupters, vikings). a few battlecruisers is good, though, to force your opponent to counter BCs. IMO they're really only good for feints and some yamato support.

Just finished 1v2 insane AI, 1v3 Very Hard AI, and 1v4 Very Hard AI. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to turtle against them, so I was forced to proxy like crazy. I tried proxy rax and bunkers with terran to keep the computers off balance, but that was too difficult. I ended up using protoss to set up a cannon and gateway contain (or cannon rush if necessary) until I could get my macro up and mass warp gates, robo, and starports (if it went late game). The trick is to get your economy up to as many bases as all of the AI's together, or else you simply cannot macro fast enough to keep up with their collective technology.
