Since you tried the lower resolution and the problem persisted, it is most certainly the CPU. Also check your task manager performance tab while running these maps, most likely your CPU will be at 100 percent or near that while you're running the game. Maybe try higher overclock to see if it improves.

Remember that fps != lag. Lag may seem like low fps because the movement is choppy and things seem to jump around, but your video can still be updating at 60fps.

I'm guessing it's the CPU as well... I looked up this Intel Pentium Dual Core e2140 and it's a fairly low performer overall (I do recall the Pentium Dual Cores being weak compared to the Core 2 Duos).

Here's Anandtech's Bench setup to compare the i3 530 (lowest end i3, which is also dual-core) vs e2140:

I wasted a few hours getting the Lost Viking achievement. You have to play at least 10 levels to get it, and it can be so frustrating. I'm glad it's over.

Yeah it took me about 10 level's or 3-4 full cycles (3 level's per cycle). But I didn't take me more than 40 min.

I am still playing the SP story mode and noticed something unusual. I went back to replay an older mission to get an acheivement I missed, and when i completed it the 2nd time, I got credits for the zerg/protoss research items I found during the replay. Now, I was maxed on protoss/zerg research so I decided to go back to an even older mission and just go through on casual to see if I got more credits. Every old mission I complete, even on casual, I get an additional 30000+110000 credits in the lab I can use to buy upgrades in the armory. Is this intended behavior, or a bug? Anyone else experience this?

My buddy bought me this for my birthday. This game is amazing, the single player is better than the original. I adore this game so much, I cannot stop playing it. I have not studied nor read any papers since I have started. It is taking over my life.

THANK YOU BLIZZARD, THIS IS AWESOME!!!!

You should only get credit for tech that you didn't get the first time through.

That is what I thought, too. But I definitely got all the tech and besides, I'm getting 140000 credits per mission. You can't find 14 research items per mission. I think it may be a bug.

I'm playing through the game again on hard right now. I'll have to try this when I get home.

I laugh at the people calling other cheaters and exploiters. It's single player, why should anyone care what another person does with their single player campaign? There is absolutely zero correlation between the single and multi player, right?
Kids will be kids, arguing about thing that mean nothing because they don't fully understand the issue. :D

Yea there is no correlation, they are most likely crying because it makes it easier to get the achievements. That being said I'm just going to play through on casual now that I've done hard. Just save up a ton of money without buying any tech and then save the game. Then I'll just open the save, buy all the tech in one category, get the achievement and then reload and do it again.

Anyone know if the map editor can be copied to a flash drive and stuck on another computer for use without installing the entire game client? If this does work, any idea on what all files are needed? Maybe the entire Support folder or (hopefully) just the map editor executable?

The map editor uses the same exact files as the game itself. All the models, sounds, animations, textures, artwork etc is required for the editor the same way it is for the game. You might be able to trim off some of the movie files etc, but most everything should be required. Also, the editor requires the same activation that the playing the game does, i.e. you need to log into battle.net once after install and every update to verify it. The editor does have it's own ability to log into bnet though, so you won't have to start the game.

When I get home I may be able to give you an idea of the file size required, but its not going to be just one .exe Going to be several gigs worth of info.

Don't worry about, I'll just check it out in a little more detail when I get home from work. I was just wondering if I could bring it in to work with me in a smaller footprint than installing the entire game so I could mess around with it some more.

I appreciate your answers though, thanks.

If you have a flash drive with at least 12GB of space, you can just throw the entire install on it and load the editor wherever you want.

Finally got my copy for my birthday (was on holidays), and managed a couple of the initial campaign missions last night. Can't wait to get back tonight to play more. If only the kids would go to bed at 6 instead of 8 :p

Apparently if you wanna unlock Orlan those 7 Insane A.I.'s cant have a 50 % handicap.
:hmm:

this is for 7 insane AI FFA achievement correct?

want to know the easy way?

Pick the Lava Flow map, and restart until you spawn near one of the island expands. As soon as the the game starts load your cc with scvs's and fly to the island. Send your remaining scv across the map to the gold expo near the other island. After landing ignore making ground units, tech towards BC's. Use the remaining scv near the gold to build another CC as soon as you have a decent econ, fly that one to the other island. Ring both islands with turrets while you build up your fleet of BC's + upgrades.

When you are maxed, move out and it's GG.

The cpu will make ground units and try to find you and eventually tech to air but they aren't too smart about it.

Orlan is easy to unlock. Play as terran. As soon as round starts, lift off and go to some island expansion. Fill with missile turrets and tech up to starports. I believe you build BC's and wait for everyone else to die, and finish a couple people off with what you have.

edit: Also cannon rushing supposedly works very well too.

I had no issue doing the 7 Insane FFA achievement as Terran without cheesing it. Wall in, get a few tanks. They'll either run around dying retardedly, or just leave you alone. Wait it out until there's only one left.

All of the outmatched AIs were harder, although I did all of those by cannon rush.
