I've never played an RTS that came close to challenging me on normal.

Like I said, I'm not a hardcore RTS player but have played tons of them. I've died or had to restart the mission in other games like Company of Heroes or World in Conflict on normal but still haven't even been close to having to restart in SC2.

I hope not, I'm looking forward to more childish rants about your experience and how everything is bullshit.

Well then settle in for a good one.
Actually, just minor. I am willing to admit 2 things. First, I am enjoying myself. Second, I feel like I paid 60 bucks for a remake. This really does not feel like a new game at all. It feels like an old one with some enhancements. Even with the neat little upgrades in between missions (which is something I've already seen in a dozen other games) Starcraft 2 does not feel fresh at all.
But for the amount of fun I could possibly have over the next year with this, I guess 60 dollars isnt too bad a deal. And if we are lucky we will have the next game by then. Maybe even some little add-ons before that.

Does anyone think the Automated Bunker Turret is worth it, or should I just go for the extra hit points? Does it do enough damage that I could leave it unmanned if needed?

I got the Automated Bunker Turret and it helps, not sure how much though. I never really tested to see how big of a difference it is. I just figured I almost always have an scv chillin around my bunkers (at least ones that get damaged a lot) so the extra health didn't really help.

Especially now that they can automatically repair it makes it easier.

I got the extra +150 health, increased sight range +1 and increased slots +2 for the bunkers. I also got the Perdition turret.

It worked really well on the Outbreak mission, was able to very effeciently hold off the waves with pretty much buildings alone (on Hard difficulty, marines + marauders inside the bunkers and a few SCVs behind for repairs) while I could scout around with the mobile units.

I thought the FOV was weird because don't most games give you more viewable screen at higher resolutions vs. lower?

I'm really surprised with how many more units and buildings are in the single player vs the multiplayer. Its a very different game.

So I finally get the damn game, and my desktop cant read the disc. In fact, just putting the disc in causes the entire file system to freeze up. Thanks, DRM. Really helping out your paying customers here.

So it works in my server, so I'm able to install over the network, but it is going to take ETERNITY to finish.

I'm at 40% about a half hour in. I should be done around 8:15pm at this rate.

Should we take wagers how long it'll actually take after the install, updates, and whatever garbage activation I have to go through to verify that I'm not a thief? I'm guessing 10PM.

And people wonder why no one buys PC games anymore!

Resolution is the Quality of the image(s). FOV or Aspect Ratio affect the area you can see.

yea it is, but can you imagine trying to balance everything with all the single player units included, would be crazy.

not really sure what DRM you're talking about when you put the disc in. Haven't heard that complaint a lot. As to the "Garbage Activation" it's a simple online registration. It requires you to set up a battle.net account unless you have one. And a battle.net account requires an e-mail address THE HORROR!!

Thats exactly what I was thinking. While its nice they put so much cool stuff in the campaign, eventually I wanna do multiplayer and skirmish. Its going to be weird using a seperate set of goodies. Especially cuz it seems like basic things are missing. I love my firebats, where the deus are they?

If you're not playing Brutal difficulty, you shouldn't complain. The campaign isn't easy unless you make it easy.

Brutal is basically trial & error gaming. You *will* restart.

is there a way to manually view the intro cutscene again? I launched the game, went to get a drink and came back and the intro was wrapping up.

Dig around in the menu. Somewhere I saw an option to look at all the cinematics.

Loving the game.

I am playing on hard and the difficulty is just right. Have had to restart a couple missions, and reload to save point a couple times. Actually a few times on that map where you need to escore the civillians.

Nothing can compare to SC1, but this game is still pretty darn brilliant.

OK, nighty-night.

I cant do 12-hour sessions like a tweenager. In fact the longest session I ever had was when I was 9 and and just got Final Fantasy. I went all weekend without sleeping. Just took quick naps which were more like muscle breaks. Those days are behind me. Now I manage myself. And my caffeine. And my bladder.

wow, competition is much easier than beta so far. I went 5-0 in placement games and am in platinum now. I fully expect to get my ass handed to me now.

In the beta I was in silver, then gold.

Sad part is, I didn't really do that well in these matches and still won.

I would also quite appreciate a guest pass, if possible.

I am curious about the game I must admit, but before I buy it I really need to give it a try. I'm also wondering, about the whole three-products-over-time thing that Blizzard wants to do with StarCraft II. As of now we have Wings of Liberty and as I understand it it's the first title out of three that is focusing on the Terrans for the single-player campaign, while the multi-player part is "full" with all three races, playable and complete, that's fine. Now, what I am asking myself is what exactly are the two next titles supposed to do? Will they only focus on the single-player campaign and leave the MP alone? What I mean by that is that are they planning at ADD units for both future titles and therefor cause new tactics to emerge, or will they just resume the single-player story-arc and leave the units as we know them, any official words about that?

Anyway, it seems interesting, but if I do buy it I think I'll stick with the single-player and off-line skirmishes (or even on-line, just A.I. at least for a time), because I always sucked in the original SC when it came to play on-line, not to mention that the on-line community for SC1 was amongst the most unwelcoming and immature I had ever seen in a long time, that's not even including the whole community-established decade-old SC jargon that new comers are always supposed to understand from the start lest being swiftly pointed at and be considered a renegade.

Just started the game with a few skirmishes vs the computer since I have never played Starcraft before. I am likeing the game so far and look forward most to the campaign. I play mostly single player and skirmish vs the computer, since I usually get my butt kicked online, and I am sure I would in this game since I have never played before.

One thing I really miss though is the ability to zoom out the camera all the way like you can in Supreme Commander. I just keep scrolling out on the mouse wheel but nothing happens.

Edit:
Zenoth, your post appeared while I was typing my original post. Guess we have the same feeling about playing online, although I never played the first game so dont know about what the community was like. Anyway, since the multiplayer may not be changed much, do you think the expansions might be cheaper, since they may focus on the single player aspect??

Lol Zenoth you want a guest pass, but then you paint the SC1 with a broad, negative brush. Why would you expect anyone to give you a guest pass after the way you just stereotyped an entire generation of SC gamers?

Because I would presume that those who would be willing to offer me a guest past are the ones who don't feel concerned by my comments and can resume their life. I'm certainly not forcing anyone to do it, I'm simply asking so I can give the game a try, and don't worry, if I do buy it you won't see me on-line, nor would I even bother giving away my on-line nickname, that way everyone is happy and no one has to endure me, nor would I have to endure anyone. I'm just willing to give the single-player and skirmishes a try, at least, and possibly one day (if I buy it) perhaps venture on-line in silence, and equally in silence leave it forever if I experience any unpleasant situations like I've had in SC1 for years.

If not I'll just move on to other things, let people around the world enjoy it and eventually maybe in two years from now or so I'll check out for a possible (or rather inevitable) SCII battle chest with all three titles included.
