StarCraft 2 possible performance tip

I recently upgraded my system's storage to an SSD and a personal-data-only HDD.

Before the upgrade, I noticed that certain maps on SC2 (I have HotS installed) were really lagging in performance on my setup (Ph2 960T, 4GB, 5770), most notably on the 3v5 CPU map, when my view included the vast mineral fields at the bases.

I had planned to migrate my SC2 installation manually but I made a prat-like mistake and before I realised it, I had already reinstalled SC2 from disc then spent yonks downloading the rest. Anyway, after the clean install, performance on that map in particular but in SC2 in general had improved significantly, for example I don't get a noticeable frame rate drop at all in those areas of the 3v5 CPU map I mentioned.

IIRC, my old SC2 install dated back to when WoL was newly released. I wonder whether some patch in between, or perhaps the (initial?) HotS update screwed something up. Anyway, it wasn't the graphics settings available in the UI because SC2 sets those to ultra/extreme (whatever the higher setting is) right off the bat on my setup.
