Anyone else playing on Brutal?

It is indeed quite brutal. I haven't played strategy games since Warcraft 3 back when, so I've had to restart around twice for each mission now. Only up to mission 4.

Yeah I'm on Brutal too. Unfortunately, you can't select the missions once you beat them, so I'm trying to beat mission 2 (The Outlaws) before 10 minutes. The best I got was 10:31 with most at 12:00-12:30.

It only gets harder...

You get access to archives which let you redo old missions.

You get it after mission 3 or 4, I think.

Thank you for this, I had no idea. It will make me stress less about completing all the achievements before moving on. :)

Completed the game on brutal today, did all the gold challenges and got the Kerrigan and Spectre portraits. Then I went on to win a FFA without mining gas. (They should have an achievement for that, lol.) Good times.

BTW, RapidSnail: I wouldn't try to get the achievements on a Brutal playthrough, too frustrating and stalls the sense of story progression. The game is geared to played through several times anyway. I had about 45 percent of achievements at the end and I'm pretty sure some of the remaining ones are impossible on Brutal.

lol i was playing on hard, its doable but gets pretty hard. Especially ones where you can't build stuff. Or timed type missions.

First levels are really easy, training type...

Just about to beat it on hard. A few missions were particularly hard, but most of them were fairly easy (exploit the AI type).

Here's a hint -
if you get a chance, take out any nearby enemy bases super early. You normally get enough starting forces to at least put a decent dent into it. This helped me especially with the mission where you have to collect the weird gas. Go with marines / marauders / medics early on, especially against Protoss, and get the marauder concussive shells upgrade at the armory (or whatever it's called) to slow down melee units. Fully upgraded medics are also quite good.

having 1 thread like usually only works for low traffic things like the eve thread.

It also helps the forum from getting cluttered with redundant threads and keeps things much more organized. Where are you getting the 'low traffic' idea from?

On topic, so far I've been playing on Normal which is far too easy. I'm going to switch to Hard and try again I think. Brutal might be a bit much for me.

low traffic topics that dont move very fast can have 1 thread. What I've found is to have 10 conversations happening in 1 thread kills discussion as everyone is talking over each other and nobody reads that thead as its become a jumble of ideas.

I'm still going through the campaign but I stop to try to beat The Outlaws under 10 minutes for the achievement. I just got 10:10 which pissed me off. I tried an 8 rax strat, but it takes too long. The most efficient seems to 5 rax + bonus rax and 4rines/2 meds per cycle with rally set to frontlines. However, I keep getting 10-11 minutes. Anyone get the achievement on Brutal?

Drop down to hard (or normal, can't remember).

It'll make it a LOT easier.

Some of the achievements are near impossible on brutal, and the jumps in difficulty levels are pretty big.

I managed this on Brutal, it took 3 or 4 attempts though.

1st completion of missin was a 20min slog

then got 2 around 11mins before getting a 9min completion

I went with 2 barracks, upgradeing to 3 soon after

1 with tech upgrade

1 spams medics, rest spam marines

I also build 7 additional SCVs immediatly

I use my starting marines to go north and grab the bonus resources immediatly - this way I am constantly building units throughout the entire game

I use 2 SCVs at the start to build, 1 for extra barracks and gas mine, 1 to extend my unit cap.

when my unit cap far outstrips my units I build the 3rd barracks (by this point I have already got the rebel barracks.

once the 3rd barracks is built is about the start of my main assault.

Basically I start attacking after about 4mins and dont stop until finished, brutal is nasty, remember to take out the siege tank asap in their base.

I mine mostly crystals, only 3 scvs for gas.

by the end my barracks are all queued up to max on production. (I shortcut my barracks so that I can select them quickly and top up the queues) and I still have >1000crystal.

in the enemy base remmeber the siege tank at the back, he destoys my army very quickly if Im not careful.

I also tend to ignore medics, with an army it is better to take out the marines 1st, they die in under a second each, medics dont have time to switch and heal them

focus fire attack

remmeber destroy barracks 1st, ignore the additional side structures till the end(medic bay and the operations thingy)

Ha, took me many tries to get it, and I finally did at exactly 10:00. Many attempts ended at 10:08-10:13. Annoying. Anyway, here is how I managed it:

After q'ing scv's and starting mining, build tech lab on the rax. Immediately move rines up to the first two resource packs and then head straight to the rebel camp. Kill the 3 rines and stay low (south) on the path until you get to the rebel ramp so you don't trigger the rines from the cave.

By now your tech lab is finished and you can q a medic. You also get the 2nd rax from the rebels and 2(?) supply depots so you don't have to worry about wasting early mins on more depots. Just pump scv's, build gas and pump marines and medics. Only need about 6-8 medics at any one point in your ball.

Get 2-3 more rax as soon as you can. hot key all rax and rally to your ball. When you move out, split your ball when the hellions come to minimize losses and then move to take out the bunker.

When you get to the base, stay to the left side, out of range of the tank. Focus fire rines only until there are 1-2 left, do not kill medics. Take out the tech lab first and then ff the medics, That will help a lot. Then take out the new marines and the 2 rax and scvs that try to repair. Kill hellions as soon as you see them. Once the rax are gone, move directly to the tank and take it out. Then take out the factory and mop up.

or you could just speak in English
To be fair, if you are attempting this mission on brutal, you should be somewhat familiar with the lingo. But fine, since you can't figure out the two things I abbreviated on your own, rines = marines and rax = barracks. I am sorry I used such convoluted abbreviations. I agree they are so cryptic I am not sure how they even became popular in the first place.

EDIT: q = queue, but I hope you at least understood that one.
