For inappropriate nick name.

ScrtJewSanta. I dunno if they don't like Jews, or maybe just secretive ones.

Also the words Hitler and Stalin are censored in chat so do not try to talk about history on bnet.

I definitely had more inappropriate names in WC3, so I wonder if it just because of the beta or if they are cracking down on jewish santas everywhere.

I will admit a little bit of regret, but they could have just censored the word in the naming system, or deleted the nickname and sent me a warning.

You pushed the limits and got banned. So, what did you learn?

probable cause was someone reported your SC2 name while everyone laughed at your WC3 name

We need to find a way to blame this on Activision... it has to be their fault!

so you got banned for being stupid

and this warranted a post why?

Sorry post Nazi I didn't remember to turn in my paperwork to you.

Now don't forget to go outside this week, I am sure in those 56.5k posts you have a few that may not have been warranted or could have been prevented with proper hygiene.

HAHAHAHAHAH LMAO!

I think if you put spelled out "Jewish" instead, you might have gotten a pass

Do you think if I emailed them and told them that I am jewish but work as a Santa Clause for the money during Decemeber that they would give me a pass?

On another note, in the email that said I am banned they included a link to a survey to rate my customer service experience.

And in a couple years when you hit puberty, you'll realize that stupid, offensive nicknames aren't cool anymore, and never really were...

How is being a Jewish Santa offensive? Are you offended at the prospect that someone might not be, you guessed it, Christian?

I hate how people seem to think "Jew" is in an way offensive. Last time I checked, tolerant, educated people don't get upset if happen to be of a certain religious preference.

A failure of common sense strikes again.

OP imo, the name is not offensive, but that is by the by.

Secondly if the company involved have come to the conclusion that it is offensive, then you should be notified and given a chance to change the name, whether you want to or not - that is their perogative.

A flat ban, no warning, is not a satisfactory outcome for anyone. Your annoyed, they look like Nazi's (ooh wait they didn't like Jews much either....)

Shame you lost out on your BETA participation.

The censorship at least in European bnet chat is pretty ridiculous since they're censoring multiple languages. I chat with a friend in my native language, and many everyday words as well as letter combinations in the middle of words get censored - I guess they must mean something else in some language. This overlap will only get worse the more they try to censor. IMO Blizz should just drop the whole thing, I don't see it doing anything positive for anyone.

Blizzard would like to thank you for the opportunity to test out their ban system. All aspects of the game must be tested, and we greatly appreciate your participation in the SC2 beta. You have made a noble sacrifice sir, you will not be forgotten

a bit overboard that you got banned, i've seen a lot worse on battlenet nicknames.

but seriously, you couldn't have chosen a more regular nickname other than ScrtJewSanta?

In defense of Blizzard's action, I don't think they need to dish out warnings in beta, it's too much hassle when they can just send out another beta invite to someone else. It's not like they owe the beta to anyone.

Other than that - disappointing, but not surprising. Blizzard has been engaging in censorship and fucking it up at least throughout WoW (anyone remember Blizzard stomping on the guilds which advertised themselves as friendly to gay players?). A quick google of the components of the nickname finds, among other things, a wikipedia page of historical crypto-jews, a "Secret Jew" webcomic by some Blumenthal guy, and talk of secret santa practices in jewish communities. Doesn't seem too offensive.

What do you want to bet "Crusader" would be found to be an acceptable bnet nickname despite it literally describes a person going to war for Christianity? (And what do you know, the WoW Paladin has a Crusader Aura and everything!) OTOH "Jihadi" is equivalent and I doubt it would be tolerated.
