Meh, not interested. They're splitting the game into 3 games, with pricing causing the final cost to be $90 not $50. Each new expansion will be contributing new units, so you'll have to upgrade to stay with the crowd.

No thanks.

Never underestimate the gullibility of the Blizzard cultists. These people will pay Blizzard any amount of money for what amounts to wholly unrevolutionary, uninspired gameplay. I've never understood the internet love affair with Blizzard.

Have you played any of their games since Vikings 2 for SNES? Every one of their games is fucking brilliant. They worked on an adventure game in the warcraft universe for ~3 years in the early 90's before canning the whole project because it didn't live up to their standards. They did this more recently with Starcraft Ghost. They don't release a game unless it's omfg awesome enough that there will still be tens of thousands online 10 years down the road. Blizzard is so far ahead of all other game developers that I can't understand that you can't understand the internet love affair with blizzard.

Bring on Diablo 3! And btw, rock'n'roll racing for SNES was one of the most underappreciated titles and one of the best games on the console.

Exactly. I feel sorry for the poor saps who dont enjoy blizzard games i really do...

Anyone know what this means for those of us with a BC'08 beta key?

I'm not really looking forward to the beta particularly though. I just don't like the hyper-micro style of gameplay. It's not about strategy, it's all about build orders and unit twitching. Have you seen the 2v2 videos posted showcasing the gameplay? In one instance, the a player sends an SCV to the enemy's base and uses it to block and delay the placing of a structure for about 1 second, and this is considered a "brilliant move" which gave the player a significant tactical advantage. Bleh.

Its a tradeoff. If the player that svc was sent to can avoid that, he can capitalize on the advantage he just gained because the svc-sender lost out all the resources he could have received from that scv if it had been gathering. The player controlling the scv to block also is neglecting his own base (early game, so these effects are pretty big) and so players that can manage more things at once have a clear advantage.

The resource thing doesn't matter if he was already using the scv to gather important info on the other player though, so it only takes a couple clicks to annoy the build order.

Do you also consider things like damage control (moving units around so you control who gets damaged) stupid as well?

Yeah I agree, its perfect for some people but it's not the way I prefer RTS to be. Supcom was my <3.

Blizzard stated that they will not be changing the multiplayer game with the expansions

would like a quote on that

it would be a stupid business decision by Blizzard not to attach brand new units with each expansion unless they're planning on providing content patches (which I do not believe has been asked)

QFT. People are spreading fud. What is happening is the campaign will come in 3 discs and each will be able to play multiplayer with all races available no matter what expansion you are up to.

At first, but that's already been changed. There will be new units added with each release, if you want the full MP experience you'll have to buy all 3, count on it.

I'm missing the part where it says you need a battle.net game? I've already created an account and am going to download the software when I get home.

Hopefully. I don't want to think of it like I do of the Matrix sequels. (That is forget it ever existed)

Fired up the original a few weeks ago, for a 10 year old game it's still awesome.

The ignorance in this thread is astounding.

As of right now (of course subject to change) the multiple parts aren't "expansion packs" per se. All they are doing is continuing the story. Part 1 is the Terran campaign, part 2 will be Zerg or Protoss, and part 3 will be the last. Each campaign is as big as the entire set of campaigns from Starcraft 1, so they chose to split into three parts. Knowing Blizzard, each one will be fleshed out like a full expansion though. This isn't Blizzard simply wanting to get more money. It's them wanting to get the game out before 2021.

Blizzard games are always worth a lot more than what they charge. For Diablo 2 I think I probably paid about a nickel an hour (at the most) to enjoy, maybe 6-7 cents an hour for wc3. I bought sacred 2 recently, probably paid about $1.80 an hour there (finished with it). Mass Effect, bout $1/hour there buying it at 19.99. Even with WoW's monthly rates I paid about 16-17 cents an hour, and if you include the $750 I got for my account I actually made money off the game. I <3 Blizzard.

I have a WoW account, but it's inactive right now, so does that make me ineligible?

The stuff I've been reading and looking at doesn't make the game look all that exciting, but I wouldn't mind trying it and going in with low expectations could be a good thing.

i'f SC2 is anything like warcraft, warcraft2, starcraft, warcraft 3, i'd pay $150 for it

they simply raise the bar and blow all their competition away with every game they make. for all intents and purposes they invented the RTS genre with warcraft, and the action rpg with diablo. how many copycats of warcraft/starcraft have there been? diablo? how is that unrevolutionary/uninspired?

Well I just answered my own question. I merged my cancelled WoW account with the new Battle.net and after that it allowed me to sign up, so I guess I'll download the beta when I get home.

Oh wow... I just googled and found an article about that. That kinda sucks. I am mainly a multiplayer gamer and not much for the campaigns.

Just looking at the sreenshots, and now in light of this new info, it almost seems like too much. I mean, it looks good and sounds good, but if it doesnt have the same magic as BW, then that will really suck. I was just hoping that they would make the regular sc into better looking 3d with real lighting.

enough of my bitching ...
