I try to never EVER do a #2 outside in public.

And, so far I've kept my word.

I don't think any woman would be comfortable if it's a multi-person restroom. I don't care about "rights"... this is just weird for the public. I know in some college dorms they have unisex bathrooms too but people know each other and there aren't potential freaks/criminals walking in there from the street.

Women's bathrooms universally have stalls and virtually all of them have doors so what exactly is a creeper going to see besides women touching up their makeup and bitching about men? Frankly, if they are transgender and even plausibly look like the sex they associate with no one will ever know that they are the opposite sex because in both cases they will use stalls.

Now locker rooms are another issue that I don't really have an answer for.
