they have all natural pastries now and they are trying to get people to try them, good strategy I guess

you know considering how overpriced their coffee and that muffins probably dont cost that much, they could probably afford to do this almost every day just to get people into their stores. their earnings report today seems to indicate people are just not going there, besides they have to compete with mccafe.

I got out of the habit of Starbucks when I switched jobs.. I haven't been at all in at least 6 months, and just don't miss it. Once every couple of weeks I go to a local coffee place (much better coffee and better pastries, for slightly less money), but what I really discovered is that for drip coffee I can easily make it better (and cheaper) than Starbucks, and it really isn't all that hard to toast a bagel. I also started occasionally making breakfast breads and coffee cakes (super easy to do), and they are so much better than Starbucks, that the last time I was there I really noticed the contrast and that their pastries are not that good.

It works for me because I like regular drip, so a decent home brewer and a burr grinder brew as well as any good coffee house. If you get some good beans, you will be way ahead.

For a treat, try this: http://www.konablueskycoffee.com/order_kona_coffee.html.

It's pricey, but damn is it good! There are other Kona growers that are supposed to be very good as well, but this is the one I toured and have ordered from so I know it is good. Most Kona you find is a blend that only has 10% Kona, and even that is no where near the quality of some of these smaller growers.

I figured its OK to thread crap at this point because the Starbucks deal is over, and making your own coffee and breakfast breads is a hot deal (much cheaper) and is a really easy habit to get into.
