Star Wars vs Lord of the Rings

Where's the triumph the insult dog clip where he goes to the star wars opening and that mage dude shows up... blackheart the invincible or whatever.
 
SW by far. Lucas wrote and directed his own film.

LOTR is good, but lets be honest, who is going to be talking about it in 20 years.

SW was started in the 70s and it's still a huge hit. I cant say the same for LOTR. My two kids love SW, but they don't care about LOTR.
 
Star Wars has 3 crappy movies bringing the series down.

LoTR has 3 crappy books bringing the movies down.

...so it's a push.

The bad comes with the good my friend. Crap CGI movies, crap Christmas specials and crap ewok love-ins all taint the water. Remember, Lucas approved or helmed all that crap himself.
 
Really hard to compare the two. They have very different tones and were made in very different ways.

Also, the Star War movies are MUCH shorter, hard to compare an epic 3 hour movie to a 2 hour movie and really LOTR is just one 9 hour long movie while the SW movies are much more stand alone.

I do think the LOTR movies are much more immersive though, most likely because they have more time to set things up and suck you in.
 
The LOTR movies just seemed like he purposly made them that long to make them seem epic. They moved extremely slow and got very boring at many points. They were good movies but Star Wars has great action, is upbeat and almost never boring. Empire Strikes Back kills every Hobbit movie ever made.

QFT. This is the biggest problem I have with the LOTR movies. They were "epic" only because they were 3 hours long. I loved seeing LOTR in the theaters, but I can't sit around and watch them on a regular basis. SW is easy to watch and enjoy and not sit through 3 hours of BS to enjoy them.
