Got mine from the Sunnyvale store at 8am - also a line of typical geeks outside, one woman, nobody dressed up though! ;)

I think I got the third copy, but there only seemed to be about 6 boxes on the shelf, I assume they had pallets full of them somewhere. Came to $40 with tax.

Someone shouted "this one's gold" and everyone chorused with "noooo that's fullscreen!"

The box is pretty disappointing - not cardboard, just kinda thick paper, with a crappy silver "widescreen" thing stuck to it (took mine off) for display purposes I guess. So I definitely think there will be a LOTR-esque big box set when EpIII hits DVD. Alien Quadrilogy box is much nicer.

I watched the EpIII preview before work, not a trailer, more like "how we made Vader's new mask"!

I am torn. I want to original version without all the added stuff. Lucas has said that that version does not exist anymore. AKA Lucas is a "Insert word here" and will never release it. So I kind of feel like not buying this. The bad part is if I do not buy it now the price will go back up and may never get better if I decided to buy it in the future.

What a pain.

I picked mine up at lunch from Game Stop... $32.08 with tax!!

I went the night before and traded in three crappy DVD's in exchange for the movie at $29.99.

Disorganized Crime, Joy Ride, and Generals Daughter (Which had a computer printed cover) and they took them! (Bought each for $5- $6 used originally so hey... good deal!?)

Over the long run, a price difference of $10 is not a big deal.

And you can always buy it used off of EBay

Picked mine up at the Brokaw, Bay Area location. There were only a couple of WS ones left. Most of the boxes were damaged, I thought the Trilogy DVD case would of been made out of something other than cardboard, but oh well.

YMMV with trade-ins to Gamestop. They torture people sometime by not accepting DVD's that were on sale from Walmart ($5.00 variations), and so forth. Gamestop and eB are notorious for running these trade-in promotions and not taking in junk DVD's (you know which one they are).

Coconuts.com has a $5 coupon + $15 MIR. SO that's $49.99 - $5 - $15 = $30. Better deal if you don't mind waiting for the rebate.

$15 rebate requires original UPC symbol from the box..... no thanks.

With the copyright issue aside, I know some people have converted the old laser-disc version of the original trilogy onto DVDRs. I believe those are the original version with digital sound, without any mods by Lucas. That's probably the only way that you can get the original theatrical version on digital media.

I picked up my copy this morning at 9:30 & 90% of the people in the store were there to buy the Trilogy in WS. It was pretty cool watching everyone in line buying the exact same thing. I was actually surprised that there were only about 40 people in line at that time. I expected there to be over 100.

For those of you contemplating buying this set today, remember the Sale Price of $36.99 at Fry's is for Today Only!

I went at 12:00 and it seemed everyone male walking around had a copy of the trilogy in their hands. I didnt think I would get one and there were none on the shelves, but I guess they decided to just put them in shopping carts. They had two that were half full.

George will probably "relent" at the last moment and put out the original theatrical cuts as part of a Super Mega Special 30th Anniversary Star Wars Sextilogy Collector's Edition Box Set (With special Jar-Jar bookends). I swear the man is taking sick joy at trying to figure out how many times he can get people to buy the same movie over.

I may pick it up if Target runs it for $30 on Black Friday (like they did Indiana Jones last year). Otherwise, I think I may try to hold out until the last big DVD set is released (like I'm waiting for the big 12 disk box of all three LOTR EE movies). Of course by then, the HD-DVD versions will be on the horizon...

I just got from best buy and I got it for $34.99 plus rewards points plus the exclusive booklet(nothing to get too excited about). To do this you need to find one of the 20% off dvd's coupons in the madden coupon book.

My local best buy still have these books on display. I am sure there is a thread on this topic.

Easter egg Instructions

Movie Discs

Each movie disc has a set of 3 different animated menu schemes, patterned around the major worlds visited in each film. The different menu sets are randomly accessed when you boot up the disc. However, it is possible to directly access each scheme individually with the use of special codes. During the Attention warning screen on each movie disc, try entering the following codes with your remote:

Code 1 - "Audio"
Code 2 - "2"
Code 3 - "10+", "2" (or "12" depending on your player), then "2" again

Each of these should allow you to access a different specific menu scheme on the movie discs.

Bonus Disc

To access a Star Wars Trilogy gag reel, go to the Video Game & Still Galleries menu page. Using your remote, press "10+", "1" (or "11" depending on your player) and wait for the pause as the player accepts the input (note that a small box next to R2-D2 will illuminate if you're on the right track). Then press "3" and wait for the pause. Finally, press "8".

Look also for additional outtake clips during the credits of The Characters of Star Wars featurette, and funny lightsaber spoof clips during the credits of The Birth of the Lightsaber featurette. You don't have to do anything to access them other than watch the featurettes.

For everyone without a Fry's close by, the local Wally had these at $41.88. I saw someone mention amazon, but personally Id rather pay the $2-3 more and have the item right then, unless of course you are not in a hurry.

How many of you SW purists are waiting/hoping for Lucas to release a "fixed" version of the EP IV DVD that has the rear-channel soundtrack/score issue corrected? For those of you who might not know what I'm talking about--the R1 version of EP IV has the rear channels for the soundtrack are switched; although the sound effects coming from the rear speakers are placed correctly, the music coming from the rears is reversed throughout the entire movie--i.e., music meant to play through the left-rear channel is actually decoded to the right-rear, and vice-versa. Like I said, not necessarily a deal-breaking problem but given how Lucas is a stickler for details, combined with the plenty of home theater/Star Wars buffs out there...this is a very serious issue.

Wrong forum but if anyone would like the trilogy on the orignal Laserdisc format (genuine theathrical version), please PM me with an offer. This set contains A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.
