It is anamorphic.

Is this the first 3 SW movies (i.e. #4, #5, #6 - New Hope, Phantom Menace, Return of the Jedi)? I have those in a laserdisk ripped DVD boot, but they aren't anamorphic. They cost me approximately $30, but last time I looked I couldn't find the company (online) that I bought them from. It shipped from somewhere in SouthEast Asia, IIRC. THX, and the quality isn't too bad, except it's not anamorphic, which always bugs me.

Yes, it is IV, V, and VI. I have some laserdisk rips, too. They didn't have anamorphic back then They were letterboxed. These are not the original, theatrical release, nor are they the SE's released several years ago. They are all-new special editions with "enhancements" specially done for these DVD's. Hopefully Greedo doesn't shoot first anymore.

They've also cleaned up all the prints dramatically, and the soundtrack is in Dolby 5.1 (or is it 6.1?) for the first time ever.

Sounds like a really good deal. Who put these out? I thought Lucas had to approve this. Or is it some kind of bootleg, too (what I have is a bootleg)? When I bought these, maybe 1.5-2 years ago, these were considered about the best you could do in these movies (I read a lot of posts online by SW afficionados). This sounds much better.

The ones this thread refer to are the real, Lucas-approved (and heavily controlled, and owned) deal. The other Laserdisc rips we're talking about are acquired through questionable means. The laserdisc rips are okay--I only bought them because I was determined to own a Non-VHS copy of the original, un"augmented" theatrical releases by whatever means necessary.

Lucas has publicly stated that he has no intention of releasing the original versions in the future--he considers the SE versions the only versions at this point. I think he may still do so eventually, because there's lots of money to made (like he needs it), but who knows?

This sounds like a good deal but the rebate states that the packing slip must be dated from 4/22/04 - 9/21/04 and the release date for the dvd set is 9/21/04. So if they ship it on 9/22/04 wouldn't the rebate be rejected? Any thoughts on this?

They've changed the rebate date to 10/5..

I wouldn't have to say this is a better deal, but I placed an order with Amazon a while ago for $41.99. I got a couple other books and things while I was at it to get the free shipping. On top of that, I got the Share the love discount. Final price was $37.80 with no rebate slip to fill out. I don't know, but I can see advantages to both sides. On one side, you save $7.80. On the other, you don't have to wait or risk the rebate form.

Either way, it is a great deal. 🙂

The Amazon/STL deal is certainly a worthy one as well. There was also a short period where people were able to use a 20% off coupon at DDD (DeepDiscountDVD.com) successfully on preorders. Any of the above is a great deal.... as long as you can take a healthy chunk out of the full retail price !

Yes, and they're essentially the same company, but Coconuts.com has the additional 10% off...

Come on folks, you know on release day that a load of stores will have specials on - I'm going to check out Fry's, CircuitCity and Toys'R'Us for starters before messing with rebates and stuff, otherwise DDD.....

does rebate require you to cut the upc?

It may, depending on whether they package it like the Indiana Jones set (with a separate sheet that had the UPC on it) or whether they send it with the usual Transworld price sticker that has the UPC on it (they accept these for rebates, always).

According to the person that posted this deal at Cheapassgamer you dont have to, you just have to send in the sticker with the UPC code on the wrapping.

For info on how much store will have it for go to:
http://www.hometheaterforum.co...s=&threadid=211107

Also, does anyone know how long the budget shipping takes? Im really tempted to get it from Coconuts but I dont want to have to wait a few weeks for it.

That's true, if they actually send those stickers--that's what's in question. It's very possible that they won't use them on preorder merchandise.

I can't say, but it doesn't appear that they've even shipped yet. I believe they use buy.com for fulfillment, so their budget shipping may be a good gauge. If they don't ship soon, I may even cancel and order from CC. I won a $5 code in their contest the other day, and they just sent me a $10 of $50 coupon...

Frys will have it for $36 on Tuesday

Excellent deal for those in the South and West, though not so good for those of us in the Northeast (and not really worth the drive). Good thing there are other options for us Fry's-deprived folk.

$37.79 at Amazon using share the love (as mentioned above). The DVDtalk forum has a STL section where you can request love.

Bump for a good deal. I had ordered it on Amazon for $42.00, but I cancelled that order to get in on this deal.

Only bad thing about the deal is that the free shipping takes 1 to 3 weeks. I'm in no particular rush to watch them as I've seen them all before, but its something to think about nevertheless.

Some really good deals here. On a personal note, Lucas won't get another dime of my money until he stops being such a pompous ass. His creative vision be damned, he's making movies for the public, not himself. He should listen to what they have to say occasionally. Instead he has become the Michael Bay of directors....

Waiting for non-SE editions to come out.

Greedo does still shoot first, and this time, Han sorta dodges too.

I've read about some of the more interesting of the 'latest' updates. The weirdest one to me is Christiansen (SP?) dubbed in as the ghost of Anakin hanging w/ Obi-Wan and Yoda at the end of Jedi to fix the continuity.

THis is the best deal I've seen on this set, thanks OP, and don't let the thread-crappers get you down!

In my similar thread on FW, 4 people received theirs today. One person's order still says "processing", too (not sure on the other three, they didn't say). Just an FYI.

It does appear, however, that the UPC is NOT separate, and will need to be cut, unless someone can persuade them to accept a copy.

<BR><BR>I find paying $30 more appealing. It's why I'm here...

I just went through the order process but have yet to hit the confirm button. Shipping isn't free for me, so I assume this doesn't qualify as a preorder anymore? The rebate coupon specifically states "presale", so I wonder if that will be honored! On top of the $4.48 shipping charge, they want $4.33 in tax. So, the pre-rebate amount is $53.80. After rebate (and it's questionable at this point if I'd get that) I'd pay $38.80. Deepdiscount is starting to look better and better at $41.88, no rebates, no sawing off the UPC from the box, no wondering if they will honor this questionable rebate. The difference is $3.08, not counting the stamp I put on the envelope when I send in for the rebate.

Poking around some more I saw the default was standard shipping. Changing that to "budget" made things a little better. Their site is screwy. Now it comes out as $48.92, somewhat better. Guess I'll bite. Thanks, OP.
