There are definitely good and bad sides to "big" servers, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to play on the SA/neoGAF server (the latter is apparently represented on Keller's Void too).

I probably won't play TOR (did play the beta), but because I think my opinion really matters :)P), there's something about the word "sodality" that I just don't like. Maybe because it looks a lot like some generic store-brand diet soda. "Come and enjoy a fresh 'Soda Lite' today!" :|

EDIT:

So you're trying to avoid servers with large/popular/well-known guilds to avoid the possible "player magnetism" that they have? Makes sense I guess, but typically large servers have their own benefits as well (usually in regard to economy).

Thanks Aikouka, I appreciate your input regarding guild name, but I also feel like having a grasp on the word, it encompasses the guild quite nicely. It's a bit difficult to find a word to use that 'fits' both sides, and I feel like overall, it does the job. Perhaps not the most aesthetically pleasing word, but fitting nonetheless.

S44, Huge thanks for scouring those servers and compiling a viable list for us!

I'm going to take my puppy for a walk, hit the gym, and grab some dinner. Hopefully by then we'll have everything wrapped up and can begin planning for the ensuing fun!

Heh, agreed, plus it's Star Trek related apparently. D:

I don't really care either way though, it's just a word and if everyone else likes it, fine by me.

There's also the possibility of going for one of the no-prelaunch-guild servers that will undoubtedly be up. Problems: (1) there may not be any in the first wave (but I doubt this); (2) can't tell what the names of these will be until actual login time.

I'd say try an avoid the servers with the huge guilds, otherwise I think its all good.

So, if possible pick a server by 10pm tonight?

I have a few friends I would l share the server name with before early access begins.

I'd say go to the servers with higher populations and larger guilds for a few key reasons.

First and foremost if this game goes the way of the last 7 or 8 big (or relatively big) MMO releases since WoW, the smaller, less populated servers will quickly become ghost towns. Those still playing on the dead realms will then be forced to transfer to another server in order to keep playing.

Second, larger servers are always more active and vibrant. World PVP zones are busy, instance groups are easier to find, and the economy is usually in far better shape.

Sure, large guilds such as Goon Squad attract tards aplenty, but I'm more than willing to put up with them if it will ensure that I'm not alone on my server by week 5 after release.

Yeah...we do not want to end up on a population starved server either. Perhaps a nice middle ground?

Though, one would guess any server should do, as Bioware likely balanced guild placements in a fairly even manner, perhaps also considering server popularity in beta. One would think anyway.

medium sized would be best. one thing to keep in mind is possible queues on popular servers. So sticking ot smaller guild server would avoid that. Honestly i dont care what server as long as we have the server picked by the itme i log on :)

Agreed. Random number generator FTW?

Also, I assume the OP will be the guild leader or leaders?

I don't see how we can really predict the server size with any accuracy until at least the actual launch. We just need to pick something and hope it's a good choice.

Honestly, given that there will be a pile of new servers after this first batch, my guess is that any of these "originals" will be pretty good population-wise. Particularly when they're being seeded with hardcore sign-up-months-early folks.

We had at least 4 votes for the Shii-Cho server and no objections that I saw.

Name proposal: "The Sodality" for the Republic and "Sith Sodality" for the Empire.

Sounds good to me. Any objections?

I realize we have few more things to work out, but I want everyone to at least know what server to roll on if they want to join the guild, since early access starts at 7am EST tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm afraid my influx of additional info created analysis paralysis. Shii-Cho does have the most amusing guild names I've seen, which isn't the worst way to pick.

StepUp, get in here! I have to go to bed early to rest for launch.

Server is officially Shii-Cho. Guild Naames will be "The Sodality" and "Sith Sodality". Will be working on a new "Official" thread shortly. Thanks to all for their input.

As far as server size, we may have to deal with queues...

But as far as guild fracturing and gravitating toward larger guilds... I just don't see how finding a smaller server combats that.

It's akin to ensuring your significant other doesn't cheat by forbidding them to leave the house. I'm hopeful those that join are more well intention than that. If they aren't, do we want them to begin with? :)
