In episode IV, what if Luke Skywalker hadn't yelled out at Obi-Wan Kenobi when he was in the middle of a Light Sabre battle with Darth Vader? If you recall, Obi-Wan Kenobi was holding his own until Luke yells out from a distance "Bennnnnn!", thus distracting him. Ben then puts his light sabre down and takes one for the team so to speak.

I'm just not 100% clear on why Obi-Wan gives up his life insead of killing Vader, which I'm sure he had a good probability of doing so.

He did it so Luke wouldn't try to rescue him and get owned by his daddy (spoiler!!! :p).

You kinda missed the point of that scene. Luke did not interupt the fight and distract Obi Wan per se but Obi Wan did take one for the team so as to be more useful to Luke in the long run (as per the plot, not per real life entanglements).

If you don't care, why post about it in forum issues?

I understand what you are saying, but surely Obi Wan could of been just of useful to Luke if he were alive. I just don't understand the benefit Luke gains by Obi Wan's death. But yeah, it obviously makes for a more interesting movie if Vader lives on.

Call up George Lucas and ask him. I'm sure no one's asked him any questions about why he did this or that in HIS movies.

If you die while on the good side, you can gain immortality liek Yoda, Anakin, ObiWan, and QuiGon.
So Ben was OK to die.
He also knew there was hope for Anakin, so he left him live with the hope that he woudl change.
