I'm going to take my 5 yo to see it this weekend. We're going to keep the glasses so when the abortion of a film Ep II comes out we'll pay another movie and just walk in to Ep II. George has enough dough.

Dead on, and well said.
I think Plinkett fell into "it's the plot man" trap much too easily.
The plot for TPM was just fine.
The acting sucked, the plot devices sucked, the editing sucked, etc.
Plot? A-OK.

the plot was nonsensical, motivations were laughable....it was not just fine, it was an unsalvageable mess.

Oh, and I'd like to again take this opportunity to say there is no such thing as 3D television, yet.

What you people are watching is called stereoscopy and it still requires your brain to do all the work of generating a 3D image.

You mean just like our eyes and brain do all the work to turn what we see into 3D?

Good god. Don't argue idiotic semantics.

Ya' I know that. It's just I noticed that I wasn't outside, and thus my confusion.

NO really, he's serious. They exist. Ponies also don't talk, generally smell, have flies, and don't come in pastel washed out colors. Seriously.

The main characters thru all six movies have always been and always will be R2-D2 and C3PO

Good point. Star Wars was a sci-fi remake of Hidden Fortress, where the story is told from the perspective of two lowly peasants who are caught up in events bigger than they are.

I think George Lucas lost sight of that.

Good luck finding legit copies. You'll be stuck watching Lucas' horrible re-imagined "special editions."

Netflix has the originals on DVD (These are ripped from the Laser-Disc releases so they are letter-boxed. Which means hit the zoom button on your TV remote to view them in wide screen.) and in Stereo. They also of course carry the special editions on DVD & Blu-Ray.

So you can watch both versions and compare.

I also still see the originals for sale in some retail stores even though they were Limited Edition.

Plus I'm sure there is many other ways to see the original trilogy. Lucas can't prevent fans from not seeing them.

Just because you dont understand it, doesnt mean its idiotic.
And its not semantics. TV makers and Hollywood studios are flat out lying. Its not 3D. Its stereoscopy.

3D would be like the holograph chess game in Star Wars. We dont have that yet. We will. Many electronics companies are working on exactly that, and it may even be right around the corner. But we dont have it yet. What we have is two split images aligned in such a way that with special glasses you can see a shitty stereoscopic image which isnt even close to what we're after.

Stereoscopy is a type of 3D viewing. Anaglyph is another. You were one of those students that drove teachers nuts with technicalities, weren't you.

Lol, the best essays I ever wrote in high school were on the the answer key to True/False questions that were written wrong.

"The answer you are looking for is true, but the answer is technically false because of how its written..."

Its not a technicality. It ISNT 3D.
What are they gonna call it when they finally do come out with real 3D?
Are they planning to apologize to the general public? Given that the general public is dumb and allowed themselves to be lied to maybe they shouldnt sweat it. Buyer beware and all that shit.

Stereoscopy adds depth, and you can already see width and height.

Tell me...how many dimensions is that?

Your argument is it isn't 3D because you can't do a walk-around of every object presented on the screen. That is called virtual reality, not 3D.

I assume you haven't seen the movie in 10 years or so.

The movie is told from his perspective, and he is the catalyst for Luke's arc in the originals. Qui Gon was the original "rebel".

The Republic crumbled, as did the Jedi order, in the prequels because they were rigid and emotionless. Yoda and the rest of the order were wrong in trying to separate emotion from action. This pushed Anakin away and towards Palpatine.

Luke triumphed over Vader and the Emperor by tapping into his emotion, and forcing Vader to re-tap back into his. It wasn't just a triumph of good versus evil, it was a triumph of the silly notion the Jedi were putting forth in the prequels. The notion that lead to their own demise. The notion that Qui Gon didn't agree with or adhere to.

The first scene with Qui Gon in it he is telling Obiwan that Yoda is full of shit and to ignore what Yoda had told him. As he meets with the Gungans and those on Tatooine he uses his force powers to manipulate people that pose no credible threat to him. He gambles and cheats. Away from the reaches of the Jedi order he plays by his own rules and lets his feelings guide him. There are a few points in the movie where he advises others to trust their feelings, and gives advice based on his feelings.

Qui Gon is no mystery character. He was the best Jedi the order had seen until Luke came along and used the same principles to defeat the empire.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...the story is full of shit...

U r reading too much into this pal...
Sorry to break this to you, but Phrantom Menace is a story for little kids.
Proof? JarJar and the fact that the little kid build C3PO and then forgot about it latter.

Edit: You got played sir, you got played...

I'm not reading into it, it is a pretty simple story. I mentioned quite a few times that kids pick up on most of this stuff.
