The voice acting seems decent... for a videogame.

BTW, EVERYONE is going to roll a Sith Warrior. How could anyone resist?

All the classes haven't even been announce yet...I doubt anyone has settled on one. I am more eager to see what all of the races will be.

What class could be cooler? Maybe a Rancor with Wookies for arms?

Anyway, apparently the game's more than a year from release... damn teases.

Count me as one person with no interest in playing a Sith Warrior. The class seems just like a Jedi Guardian, another one I would have zero interest in. I'm planning on rolling the 'caster Sith' class whatever it is they end up calling that. My niece is heavily anticipating this game, she is completely set on rolling a Bounty Hunter(has 3 T8 WoW toons, she isn't really the casual type).

Honestly with the way the game is structured I'll probably end up rolling one of each of the Sith classes just to see all the different perspectives. Unlike most MMOs, it doesn't seem like rolling an alt is going to be a chore born out of necessity/boredom but something that is actually fun to do.

I just can't see anyone choosing to be a bounty hunter/smuggler. It just seems that a force based character is going to be more fun (IE Jedi/sith).

Its like having two classes for rangers and one class with the benefits of a warrior and mage.

from the video, the sith warrior doesn't seem to have as good CC as the smuggler/bounty hunter, I think 1 on 1 it will get the upper hand at the beginning with charge/choke, that is if the smuggler doesn't have mine/traps ability. The force chock seems to have a melee range and i imagine them to be kited til kingdom come. i can see it's greatness in chasing down runners in group battle though.

oh, bring in the wookies!!

i refuse to get excited over this game. SW has a long legacy of disappointing fans. Just assume the game will suck and then you at least have a chance at being pleasantly surprised.

I was expecting something more revolutionary for an mmo. Something like Prince of Persia meets Metal Gear Solid 4 and less like crap

SWTOR cost?
October 27, 2008 by Tesh

I?ve written about SWTOR before, illustrating my trepidation regarding the unholy marriage of Bioware?s storytelling and the relatively mindless MMO genre. Perhaps it?s just delusional, but I think I found a happy place to hope for in regards to the whole project.

Bioware loves story. I love story. MMOs as a genre aren?t amenable to strong stories, since they are ostensibly meant for players to tell their own stories, and they benefit from a static world that people can call home. Bioware has stated that their work on the SWTOR MMO will be the rough equivalent of several single player Bioware RPGs, with each class having a storyline.

What if they sold the game that way?

What if Bioware sold SWTOR like Guild Wars? The GW base game had six classes and a fairly strong storyline. Factions and Nightfall each added two more classes and another storyline. Eye of the North didn?t introduce classes, but had a story. Players would buy the game, and play it online, with no fee to do so beyond the initial purchase. It made sense; the game is highly instanced, and players see the story mostly independent of other players. There?s no justification for charging for what the industry laughingly calls ?MMO? game mechanics when you?re largely playing a single player game that just happens to be online. (At least GW is honest about it, while other games, not so much?)

With GW as an example, what if SWTOR sold their game as a series of standalone products with no monthly fee? Players could buy the Jedi box, or the Sith box, and just go play the Jedi or Sith stories? with optional multiplayer MMO mechanics. If one class isn?t good value for the box price, lower the price to $20, or include a few classes like GW did. Say, a Light Side box, a Dark Side box and a Grey Box. (Neutral? Other? Fringe? What do you call characters in the SW universe who aren?t involved in the Force mythology? Mercenary?)

That?s a product I can and would support. Bioware tells stories well. MMOs aren?t a stage for such, but GW hits a sweet spot between typical MMO mechanics and strong narrative. (At least in the balance; I?m aware that there will be those who think the story itself is lousy? this discussion is more concerned with the potential of storytelling in MMOs and the monetization thereof, rather than story quality itself.) That?s part of why I?ve spent more money on Guild Wars than I?ll ever spend on WoW or any other subscription based game.

If SWTOR goes that route, which I feel is entirely in keeping with their design goals, I?m likely to pick up the game. If they go the Age of Conan route and try to shoehorn story into a typical DIKU-flavored MMO loot and level treadmill, I really don?t think that they will be the WoW competitor they hope to be. AoC and WAR haven?t been able to compete with WoW on even terms, and Bioware?s skill just isn?t going to be enough without tackling some core concepts differently, like the business model and core game mechanics.

The thought of paying monthly fees for MMO when all I want is a Kotor3 single player experience turns me off.

I have many reservations about this game, and I'm still majorly upset that the next KotOR title is an MMO instead of singe player, but I'll watch these videos nonetheless.

take some small comfort from the faq where it says that "while some quests in the game require cooperation of other players, the majority can be completed on your own." It aint much, but its something.

Just that Mission is a latent Jedi. *

You really should stay away from this thread and the net in general until you get past the Leviathan.

* not really, but you should have stopped reading by now.

how about KOTOR 2, I heard it wasn't as good as the first. Should I bother with it?

It's a great game, but it had to live up to it's game of the year predecessor- a hard act to follow. Play through 1 first, then go with Kotor 2.

I just passed that part last night. I saw that twist coming from a mile away... pretty much from the beginning of the game.

Every review or mention of KOTOR mentions a plot twist which essentially ruins the twist for me because I automatically go on the lookout for it. And if you are trying to figure out what the twist is in this game it's pretty obvious.
