Perhaps the solution then is for everyone to have Starkiller's, so good guys with Starkiller's can blow up the bad guy planets with Starkiller's.

:hmm:

Certainly a complete background check and waiting period is needed before a Starkiller permit is handed out?

SW VII was nominated for 5 academy awards:

Film Editing
Sound Editing
Sound Mixing
Visual Effects, and
Music – Original Score, the latter of which was for John Williams.

Good to see that Best Picture or Best Director were NOT among them.

This slight deviation from the overall title is not really enough to denounce the fact that she really is a "Mary Sue". Who knows, if Finn wasn't there she may have gone apeshit and excaped on her own.

Or maybe Kylo Ren puts bindings or handcuffs on her and gags her so she can't talk. If Finn wasn't there to distract Kylo for about 2-3 minutes he would've had time to do those things after knocking Rey out with a force throw...

It's just a movie and we aren't going to change each other's opinions /shrug

I don't see it winning anything (maybe score). Mad Max deserves the Sound and FX awards IMO.

Some more of my thoughts...

Hux was pretty cool, and quite convincing as a bad guy. He was made not vanilla evil very well too, with how the way he eschews clones and how he believes real humans are perfectly capable of doing what the First Order needs militarily. A small sliver of humanity in an otherwise genocidal bad guy.

Captain Phasma, given how soff she was after a threat of being tossed into a trash compactor...hmm...perhaps Finn being not mentally hardened to kill maybe due to his higher up being as soft as he is. You'd think loyalty and blind sacrifice would be instilled easily in the troops, especially a superior. I'm LOL at the thought as a I type it.

Indeed. I also don't get the nomination for score...It's a 40 year-old score. Maybe 3% is "new," which is still basically old motifs.

If Mad Max hadn't been around this year, I think Star Wars would easily get the nod. The FX were impressive.

Frankly, I'm also amazed that they did a digital version of the helmet when Ren was talking to Snoke. Like, really? Why not, you know, just wear the damn helmet? lol

But watching that FX video demonstrates how well they handled things, and how beautifully they integrated real FX with digital.

But Mad Max... damn. But it gets difficult when you consider that Mad Max had far more physical, real effects, with digital just to help a little and get rid of tethers and whatnot. But Visual Effects awards are all encompassing and aren't predominantly about how awesome the digital FX is but how the whole thing comes together to make it seem as real as possible.

Both are very good for VFX but, I too think that Mad Max gets the award.

I knew it!!

Yeah. This isn't too shocking though. Nice to have it confirmed.
It was clear that something was missing from the Maz scenes. Not to mention that in the trailers we see her hand had over the saber to another set of female hands.

I still VERY MUCH hope that we get a director's cut of the movie. I know there was another article saying that there was about 20 mins of deleted scenes from the first to final cuts. It's not a TON of material, but certainly there is some important stuff in there.

Hopefully they just wanted to make a bigger reveal in Episode VIII. I hope they aren't toning down the character from the intended Force user to a non-Force user. They really seemed to have been planning to build up the character, give her significance, but she never really got that in the theatrical cut. Hopefully that doesn't mean her character is not going to get that in later works.

Why even cut 20 mins out? It's not like anyone couldn't watch that much more.
