Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

How do I know if the DVDs I rented from Blockbuster Online for star wars episode 4, 5, and 6 are the ones that have been enhanced with newly touched-up effects in the late 1990's? How do I determine that they are not the very original ones (or if they are)?

Hopefully I will be watching the latest enhanced editions rather than the late 70's or early 80's editions.

Because you can't "buy" the original trilogy that was released in the 70s/80s on DVD. Lucas never released them on DVD. Personally I think the "enhanced" ones are garbage, and perfer the original renditions of them.

Also the new DVDs have even more enhancements over those released in the 90s

The only place you can find the original 70s/80s on DVD are Laserdisc rips that are floating around the internet, so don't worry you'll have the new ones.

Because the original theatrical movies were not released on DVD. They were released on VHS though. I have the set.

EDIT: err, maybe I have the special editions on VHS

The DVD versions are not the same versions that were released in the 90s. They are updated versions of those "Special Editions"

The Originals from the late 70's early 80's will probably never be released on DVD.

i just checked my laserdisc collection(havent looked at it for maybe a decade), and just remembered i have the set (including many more classics).... woot for the "original" one...

what's the max filesize and codec format (mpg1?)

of laserdiscs .. .and can they be ripped digitally?

Why not just buy yourself a set of DVDs someone has made from the laserdiscs and save yourself the trouble?

IIRC, the video was analog.
