I still have them, though I am not 100% sure where they are and my Death Star isn't complete any longer. In my garage, I do have the Star Destroyer playset and Slave 1, along with a few other ships in my attic. :) The actual figures are in their figure cases, stored in my man cave closet.

I also have 7 of the original 12" figures boxed up. I should finish that collection.

Never had a single 12" figure I will admit.
I love that you want to finish the collection though :)
When I was about 20 or so and had actual $$, I and a few of my friends, started buying up all the stuff that we wanted as a kid but never got. (I'm looking at you Y-Wing and B-Wing).

The holy grail though was the Sand Skiff:

I saw it for sale twice when I was "reliving childhood fantasies" via my wallet. Once was in box $500!!!! and the other was out of the box $200. Way too pricey

Good idea. When I was in my early 20s, there was an antique mall a few miles away and several booths had SW stuff. I stocked up on any of the figures I missed and got doubles, triples, and quadruples of various troopers. I never had the Y-Wing or B-Wing though but I would LOVE to have them. Maybe I can find a place in the corner of my man cave to hang a B-Wing....

I actually saw that in the store one time in the mid 80s, but I was a teenager by then and wasn't interested. Big mistake!!

Aside from the 12" originals, the only "rare" figure I have is the legendary Blue Snaggletooth. I have a few Power of the Force figures too but last time I checked, my Luke in Stormtrooper outfit was missing. I don't know if someone stole him while I was showing off my collection or if I moved him to a safer location (I vaguely recall thinking about that).

If George Lucas had been a filmmaker in the 40s, he'd be the guy trying to colorize Casablanca twenty years later because "color looked so good in that Spartacus film. And can we add widescreen too?"

What a fucking hack.

I was 6.5 when Star Wars hit. I remember being surprised a few years later when I saw it again and he added the "Episode IV" and "A New Hope" to the opening scroll.

Darth Vader and the Tie Fighter were my first toys. I remember going to Children's Palace and seeing a HUGE row dedicated to Star Wars stuff throughout the run of the OT. They literally had hundreds of SW figures to dig through. It was GREAT!

My favorite part was that usually, the first wave of new figures for the upcoming movie was released a couple of months before the new movie. Keep in mind that we didn't have WWW access in the 80s, so these new figures appearing were kind of a "mini-spoiler" and I remember how much fun it was to try and guess who these new characters were or how they played out in the movies. I specifically remember seeing the Biker Scout figure and the first wave of Return of the Jedi figures and guessing if they were major characters or not.

Wow..that brought a shiver to my spine. I SO remember going to KMart and seeing all the new figures, reading the backs of the packages, seeing next ships, and thinking WOW! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS!!

My first toy from Star Wars was the snowspeeder:

I also had Han Solo's blaster, which was cool because to make it shoot, you had to hold down a button on the handle, then pull the trigger. I think the button caused a wheel to start spinning inside the gun, and when you pulled the trigger to scraped something against the wheel to make a laser sound. A side effect of this is if you slowly pulled the trigger, is sounded EXACTLY like a circular saw cutting through plywood. You could fool people into thinking you were actually cutting through stuff with it :D

My wife doesn't understand my nostalgia or sentimentality (is that a word?). Conversely, I look at her and think to myself that it must really suck not to have had so many awesome things as a kid that you want to relive or revisit.

For me, Star Wars is definitely one of those things.

I still remember tryiong to shove GI-Joe characters into the Darth Vader Tie Fighter!!! (they didn't QUITE fit!)

I was, I think, 8 when the first came out. There was a contest with all the teens in seeing who could see it the most times. Back then, kids prices were somewhere around $1.50, so thios was a possibility.

The sad thing is, with these 3D tix being $25-$35, they will site a MUCH smaller turnout as being "successful" because it grosses more than the original. :p

Oh, as for the originals? I think he will do what every Disney-type scumbag will do. Wait another 10 years and release a SPECIAL special box set with the old and new versions, the new series AND the 3D all on Blu Ray and DVD for a gazillion dollars (Because you get it in a Bobafet helmet, forgive the spelling!).

I was annoyed that they simply did not take the old flik and clean up the effects to make it so you could not see the yellow frames around the tie fighters in battle. The key to "cleaning up" a l;ot of this stuff is to simply keep it the way it was and concentrate on making what was there look better, not make new stuff (Geez, is it just me or did Jabba gain a LOT of weight between 3 and 4? That was stupid including him back in 3!)

Ah well.

Work.

I think you mean 4 and 6 :)

We never saw Jabba until 6. He was added to 4 using the original footage shot for that scene in 4 when Jabba was supposed to be a man. The ABSOLUTE WORST part of that was the INCREDIBLY HORRIBLE part where Han steps on Jabba's tail. I shivered. It was like as if millions of Star Wars nerds suddenly cried out in terror and suddenly left the theater.

Man how much they gonna milk this franchise for. Next up: Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter in 3D. Brilliant idea to make a lot more money, by 2012 3D will be much more widely accepted than it is right now.

I swear IndyColtsFan, we were seperated at birth.
My wife too has very little nostalgic things from her youth. Different upbringing I guess. I may have TOO much though. I can browse through shit on ebay all damned day and get teary eyed :)

FWIW, I paid NINETY for my B-Wing and NINETY for the Y-Wing in probably 1994. Not much ability to cross reference pricing and such back then :(

I don't think I have any rare figures. Maybe large-head Han, though not super rare. I KNOW my first 2 jawas were vinyl capes (ultra rare)... but I dont have the caps any more of course. Some frinds have amanaman and the blue snaggletooth I know.

IIRC, I am missing the cardboard "walls" on my Death Star, the "rope," and there are a few broken/cracked pieces.

They have boxed Death Stars for $1000 on eBay right now. Loose ones or ones not in prime condition go for a couple hundred, it looks like. The B-Wings were remade with the series of figures that started in the mid-90s and continue to this day, so they are fairly reasonable. Heck, I even saw some classic B-Wings that look like you can get them for under $50.

I lost the rope and the cardboard walls long ago. The pipes/columns were flimsy at best and always had issues. When I gave it to my some I fabricated some replacement supports for the levels that sufficed.

I (he) still has the Dianoga monster of course. that thing was/is awesome.

You mentioned the Star Destroyer (I had this as well). Did you know that the Sandspeeder slide PERFECTLY into the back/bottom of that thing? It was like a hand in a glov. I would always have the rebels "dock" it that way and then attack through the little hatch on the side.

MUAHAHAH Man I miss those easy days.

My favorite was the lame box displays:

falcon.jpg

You've got Luke pacing around and C3-PO playing chess, while the door is WIDE OPEN with Stormtroopers crawling all over the place. I just want to scream "You retard, shut the door!"

And this one:

Darth&

"Oh, don't mind my colleague. He is just HANGING around."

"Psst. You! Over there at the computer! Watch that secret panel, as my spies have told me a group of retarded rebels are going to try to drive up in a landspeeder and come through that door."

rebel%2Bcommand%2Bcenter%2B1.JPG

"Well hello there, General Veers. Don't mind us, we're out for a walk in this balmy -100 degree weather. It is nice of you to drop by the main entrance of our hidden Rebel base though."
