It was Billy! Boy this episode had everything. And while Ian didn't reprise his role, the voice of the emperor was so good I could have sworn it was the real deal. Far and away better than clone wars. (although I still think the world of Tim Curry as a VA it just wasn't a good fit for him) The plot armor was high in this episode it seemed. The entire time I was thinking Vader could kill them easily. But then it came apparent he let them go to allow them to lead him to the rest of the rebels, which was a proven Imperial tactic as seen in the original movie. And now that Vader knows about Asoka things are only going to get MORE interesting moving forward. I can't wait.

I just wish the Minister hadn't been killed off as she seemed to be the sort of an inbetween character with a little more depth than the usual all good or all evil you see these days.

yeah, I was wondering why they blew up the minister's ship BEFORE the rebels had a chance to board.

I must admit, I actually really like Rebels. Kinda bummed that the new season doesnt begin for a while but i hear theyre planning on 25+ episodes. Never realized some of the voice talent on the show, Freddie Prinze Jr, Paul Reubens, James Earl Jones, Billy Dee Williams, and Sarah Michelle Geller has a role in season 2.

Having James Earl Jones do all of the voice work for Vader is amazing considering how much exposure Vader has in the show now. And the guy they got to voice Palpatine is so close to nailing it that when I watched the Season 2 movie premiere I thought before reading the credits that they actually got Ian McDiarmid to reprise his role. Considering the low budget they're working with compared to Clone Wars, they really accomplished a lot with Rebels. The first half of season 1 didn't really do it for me, but they really hit their stride since.

I think this show has finally found its legs. The season 2 premiere was awesome.

Yep, I figured they were building up to this, and I think Ahsoka's a goner. 🙁

Other than the one episode special they released and called the start of the season, the rest of it has followed a regular fall-spring release.

Good stuff. Pretty much sets up The Force Awakens plot points

the 2 commanders with capt rex, were they ever in the clone wars cartoon?
and why didn't capt rex have any odd side effects of taking out his chip like the 2 commanders?

I wonder if they're going to show what happened to commander Cody?

Wulffe was in the clone wars i think, i dont recall hearing about gregor before. i dont think i saw any mention of cody being in this season.

Basically the other two were a bit off to begin with. Rex was always the sane one. Wolffe had his eye poked out and had to deal with C-3PO. Gregor got amnesia, got his memory back thanks to R2-D2 and a bunch of other droids, and then apparently didn't die while covering said droids' escape. He only had one appearance (Missing in Action) which is why he's otherwise unmemorable.

On a related note, I just saw the season 2 trailer the other day.

Just saw the last episode. I'm unimpressed with the new inquisitors. They just seem so... "Gentle" I guess is the word. The first time you see Darth Vader you knew he wasn't someone to fuck with. He picked up a rebel like a toy, strangled him with his bare hands and cast him aside like a piece of trash within a minute of screen time. He laid down the law and didn't waste any time doing it.

I realize it's a kids show and it was likely the Inquisitors assignment to bring in Ezra alive for "Rehabilitation" or something, but never the less I wish their first appearance was more memorable. It was like they were trying not to nick any of them with their lightsabers. Such as it is they're like the Saturday morning cartoon show villains that capture the good guys, have them at their mercy then let them escape no worse for wear. Like a couple dopes.

so the guy that died in the 1st season was the Grand Inquisitor.
these 2 are regular inquisitors. I'm assuming less skilled and easier to handle if fighting one on one?

well I thought the inquisitors were all the same rank and reported directly to Vader.
but this season it appears the guy who died had the title of Grand Inquisitor.

and I'm glad they straighten out that kanaan never achieved the rank of Jedi.
I was wondering why he's having such a tough time trying to teach a padawan last season.

and yes in Clone Wars, they mentioned that all the clones had something implanted when they were babies.
they were lied to by saying those chips controlled their aggression because of the person they used as the master copy (bounty hunter Fett).
guess some figured out it was those chips that forced them turn on the Jedi and removed them.

Also kanaan pales in comparison to Tano as far as training is concerned. Marvel did a 4 issue comic detailing his past and it looks like he was deployed to the front lines of the clone wars as a Padawan roughly in the last week or so before Order 66. Tano fought in the war for practically 3 years by the time she was expelled from the order

That was pretty cool, but mainly because it reminds me of the ship Excalibur in Crusade (the B5 sequel). I think it used multiple energy sources that got focused into one beam.

I've just started with season 2.

The logical inconsistencies are too hard for me to swallow. Anyone else feel that clone Wars was better? I simply can't get myself to like this crew.

And how many times do we have to see these weapons be laughably inept? The tie fighters might as well be shooting nerf guns by the consequences of them hitting the target. Light sabers tend to wave around and not actually hit anything.

And aren't the clones supposed to be the evil Jedi assassins? It's so silly how quickly a loyal soldier to the republic turns on the empire. Even if they have their chips removed, there should still be residual loyalty to the government they fought for all of their lives.

It's a kids show on Disney.

Imperials being laughably inept isn't a "Star Wars Rebels" thing. It's a Star Wars in general kind of thing. All the way back to episode 4 Imperials were bloody useless, failing to connect with any of their shots. Sometimes they can't even get through a door way without banging their head. Over the course of the entire star wars trilogy you only see leia ever actually get hit by a Stormtrooper. (Employee of the month right there)

As for the clones, they aren't evil jedi assassins as much as they're trained soldiers indoctrinated with safeguarding the Republic. The whole point of the chip was to ensure their obedience at all times, no matter how far fetched the order, to the point where their own judgment was suppressed. And without it, free thinking clones like Rex are able to make better judgements grounded in reason. Perhaps they still do have lingering loyalty to the Republic, but that was basically destroyed by the Empire.

As a whole I find myself liking Rebels more than Clone Wars despite the lower production values. These characters fates aren't written in stone. And whenever Vader makes an appearance it's pure joy, whether he's wrecking an entire fleet of rebels in a snub fighter or showing exactly how the Empire gets things done.

Letting Kanan and Ezra go despite having an overwhelming advantage in lightsaber combat seemed like a cartoon show moment at the time, but when he used them to lead him to the Republic fleet it felt downright reasonable, and perhaps a reason why the Empire tried to use that tactic again in episode 4.
