Star Wars question

I read a few comments by users on this forum that Star Wars is not a wholly original creation by lucas. I vaguely remember that he supposedly purchase the franchise rights to some sci-fi novel that is the basis of SW. Is this true or bs? If so, could anyone provide some links with details on this subject. Thanks!

I just remembered, most was lucas, except he hired a scifi writer to write the book. the movie came from the book. alos what chuckywang said is correct.

George Lucas wrote A New Hope, it is entirely him. Empire was written by another person entirely, based on the story Lucas told him, and Jedi was co-written with George Lucas.

The story itself is based somewhat on The Hidden Fortress.

Here's a pretty good site on the origins of Star Wars and the various influences.

I took a class about myths and their origins back in college and I remember one guy in the class talking about this stuff, I thought it was kinda nerdy but it really also fit in with what were talking about.

The StarWars movies aren't real. Starwars is real, and the death star is still being built. If you invest in it, go to the shareholders meetings and suggest that they put gratings on the ventilation shafts.

Also make sure that the 2nd one is designed to where large fighters can easily fly through it to the core where the power source is wide open and unshielded.

he stole stole stole from a lot of things.

but hey, nobody hates on him.

isaac asimov's books are all about a galactic empire, saturday morning serials had prolouges scroll up the screen before they began, and even luke skywalker was a character in a tolstoy novel!

Interesting:

the actor who played Boba Fett, said the character was based on Clint Eastwood's version of The Man With No Name. You can hear a little cowboy-spur jingle when Fett enters the dining room in The Empire Strikes Back, soft and subtle enough that it's probably meant to trigger our emotional association with the character without our conscious awareness.
