No not real. It is lucasarts pulling a sony / Killzone 2 lame prerendered stunt.

The point of the post is: 1) to show a cool movie, and 2) to express my anoyance with companies thinking they are doing their job by releasing lies (if not lies then at least missleadings) to us the consumer.

The thing is, though, is that games have been putting out pre-rendered teasers for a long, long time now - but technology is now at the point where the pre-rendered and in-game graphics are so close, that we're often not sure which is which, unlike before when we all knew as soon as we saw them.

But for some reason, now it bothers us.

if only lucusarts actually put a fair bit of money into creating a VERY good engine (must include physics).....just imagine how great the game could be with the usable force powers. Hell, there would be nearly no point in using lightsabers if they can just use physics and have force powers moving objects to slam against people

that begs the question then, why don't they just use in-engine work to make a "movie" - use machinima?

I have to disagree sir.
The last time they used their own engine it sucked ass, (Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight).
However when they used a known quality engine (ID's Quake 3) not only did they put out games quicker but they were much better, (Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, KOTOR 1, KOTOR 2).

I have long wished they would just licence the Doom3 or Source engine and make another good Star Wars game.

So, getting back on topic:
What game was I just watching and was a cinematic rendering engine or an actual modern game engine?

True, many games do this. But I'd imagine the required amout of scripting and details may call for pre-rendering, rather than incorporating those kinds of things in the game and have them only used for a pre-rendered sequence.

I mean, a few digital/AV guys are probably 10x cheaper than experienced AI and scripting programmers

They do, sometimes.

But about the video, GOD that was cool. "Ahhh... AHHHH. NO PLEASE!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Fun stuff.

doesn't the first half of the vid look like it could be in game? The second half is clearly prerendered, imho.

I love the Jedi series. Dual lightsabers ftw. I'm hoping that there's a Star Wars game coming to Wii that'll take advantage of the controller and allow us to use the controller like a lightsaber.

It doesn't belong to any particular game or movie. It is a tech/target demo.

Jedi Knight was at the time regarded as one of the best FPS'es available. Sure the lightsaber combat was clunky, but the game itself was amazing. Good puzzles, neat level design (falling ship!), and massive levels.

If they could take the graphics engine and lightsaber combat from Jedi Outcast/Academy and put in the Jedi Knight story and levels, it'd be an awesome game.

Wow I will have to look into that. It is far and away my favorite games of all time.

Double full shields to front.... I'm going in.
