The thing is, though, is that games have been putting out pre-rendered teasers for a long, long time now - but technology is now at the point where the pre-rendered and in-game graphics are so close, that we're often not sure which is which, unlike before when we all knew as soon as we saw them.

I have to disagree sir.Originally posted by: Unkno
if only lucusarts actually put a fair bit of money into creating a VERY good engine (must include physics).....just imagine how great the game could be with the usable force powers. Hell, there would be nearly no point in using lightsabers if they can just use physics and have force powers moving objects to slam against people

that begs the question then, why don't they just use in-engine work to make a "movie" - use machinima?

Oh fvck that! I want a new X-Wing and TIE Fighter.
Jedi Knight was at the time regarded as one of the best FPS'es available. Sure the lightsaber combat was clunky, but the game itself was amazing. Good puzzles, neat level design (falling ship!), and massive levels.Originally posted by: shortylickens
The last time they used their own engine it sucked ass, (Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight).
However when they used a known quality engine (ID's Quake 3) not only did they put out games quicker but they were much better, (Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, KOTOR 1, KOTOR 2).
