Star Wars MMO $39.99 Feb 28

just wait six months to a year and it'll probably be free to play (pay2win) like most of the other MMO's over the last few years.

Good deal if you don't want to wait though I guess. 🙂

It's a lot of fun even if you just like single-player RPGs like KOTOR 1-2.

You never have to group unless you want to, all of the group content can be skipped and the story content for your class can all be soloed with your NPC companion. That said, the grouping I've done has been fun too.

Question related to this... I'm assuming this being a new MMO goes by a monthly cost model, right? I'm really only interested in going solo but don't have consistent time off so having to pay monthly is going to be a huge waste. If I could buy game time that only counted when I played that would be better, but I suppose that's not how things are done anymore.

The initial purchase gets you one month, but after that it's $15/month or $42/3 months.

It's billed per month not by hours played, so if you can't play enough to get your $15 worth you might hold off until you have more time.

Yeah I have to buy the game, and keep paying them to keep playing it. No thanks.

This should be KOTOR3 not an mmo 🙁

In fairness there is much more content here than a single RPG like KOTOR 1-2.

There are 4 main Republic classes (each with 2 advanced class variants) and 4 Empire classes. All 8 classes have their own unique story quests with cutscenes and full voice acting. There are also shared side-quests, but the voice acting / dialogue is changed in those side-quests for each class.

Each of the 8 classes gains 5 different companions over the game, all voice-acted (= 40 companions).

Plus, for all 16 class variants you can choose to be light side, dark side or neutral based on how you approach the quests. There are also 4 different crafting skills, more complicated than the crafting in KOTOR 2.

It would take months to go through all of that content. I've been playing for 2 1/2 months so far (all 4 Republic classes at once) and have not finished the Republic side yet, or done any of the end-game content.

I don't think I could stand rolling more than one character on either side. The class storyline is unique but you have to do 90% of the same crap since you go through the same planet to do the same side quests just to level up so you can see the next part of your class quest.

You can do different sidequests for different characters, there are far more than you need to stay on-level for the class quests.

There are also the daily flashpoints and rail shooter space missions for XP.

Also, the shared quests play out differently for a Jedi Sage healer vs. a Trooper Commander or a Smuggler Gunslinger just from the different combat styles.

But if you can't stand to see the sidequests more than once, the game probably isn't for you until it gets cheaper.

Why would the game not be for me? I'm just saying that rolling more than one character on each side is just not for me. I've been playing this game maybe 2 weeks after release (wanted to avoid the terrible queues that it had) and I'm enjoying the one empire character that I have. 🙂

It might not be for you if you objected to the purchase + monthly fee just to go through the story content once with a single character. Since you said you didn't want to repeat sidequests I guessed (wrongly?) that you also wouldn't like repeating the end-game content (flashpoints, operations, PVP).

You definitely got the wrong impression from my comment. I'm just saying that despite having 8 unique classes (4 main classes on each side), it's not the same experience as buying 8 different KOTORs mainly because of the numerous shared side quests that you'll end up repeating. I'm didn't object to the purchase + fee. I consider that part of getting to play with my friends on an MMO (which is why I mostly avoid single player games now)

But you are correct on my end game playstyle. I've beaten every flashpoint up to lvl 45 at least 1-2 times (had to rerun it for friends who didn't get to go) and I'm planning to beat every hardmode and operations at least once. Once that happens and if Bioware doesn't release any new content by then, I'm basically done with the game and moving on to the next. I'm not a fan of grinding. I'm a fan of enjoying new content.

Edit: Since this is detracting from the hot deal (which is still available now for $37) if you want to discuss further we can take it to PM.

first time MMO-er here, and i have been playing it since launch nonstop.
I played WoW for a little, but it didn't do it for me, felt boring and repetitive; with SWTOR, it felt more lively, and the single player story is actually quite good.

If I was just getting into MMO I would look at one of the many free options.

OTOH I think the catch with almost all MMO is that you need a solid core of real world friends to play with online, so I end up playing whatever the most of my friends are playing.
