In 2005 Star Wars creator George Lucas announced plans for a live-action television series set between the prequel and original film trilogies.

Rick McCallum, a senior LucasFilm executive involved with the project, indicated in 2012 that it would be at least another "couple of years."

they still cant the costs down enuf to get it on a weekly TV show 🙁

people by their nature want to move forward. Please enough looking back. Set the series AFTER Jedi.

The Ewok breeding program must not be going well. Yub nub!

I don't have much hope for Lucas creating something worth watching, but we'll see.

Don't laugh but the animated "the clone wars" is actually pretty decent, if you consider how it airs on Cartoon Network. This project could be decent if George Lucas gives the skilled people he has employed free reign

Exactly. I for one am looking forward to more plot twists involving Darth Maul not only being alive, but become half giant spider/half robot cyborg thing.

I remember back in 2005 they said it was going to premiere in 2008. So basically this show has been in production for almost a decade.

I don't think it's because they're having production trouble. I think they're having trouble finding someone to air it. It will have to be on a major network to pay for it, but major networks are done with sci fi shows.

I'd put money down that this show will never see the light of day.

please no

unless the absolute impossible happens and it ends up on HBO, Showtime, or maybe even AMC and its focus is on good story/characters/acting first and foremost

This. And set it after Return of the Jedi.

Also, George Lucas must not be involved with the writing or directing or special effects or editing.

Wouldn't that be nice?... Sadly you don't always get what you want.

But man, live action star wars done by HBO minus Lucas? Sounds absolutely ridiculously amazing.

well, long before any of the movies can work as well, for instance a live action series based off of KOTOR would be badass

but basically anything that isn't tied down to having to mesh with the original trilogy without being able to really explore anything new would be dumb

It's not even in production. It's still in the planning stages.

This is going to be in limbo forever. Until they start building sets and hiring actors it's not even worth paying attention to.

This, there's more than enough backstory after that. Hell, they could set it 40 years after Yavin and base it on Jaina Solo. Kate Beckinsale for Jaina Solo?

Too bad, I say an live action series based on Obiwan protecting/watching over Luke as he grew up would be enourmusly cool. Obiwan needs to hide out to evade the Empire, keeps his powers secet and stay out of Luke's sights so Uncle Ben doesn't get pissed off. Although I know the series wouldn't be anything like this, it would end up being a childish piece of crap.

live action would be crap, the fights in the fear and hope trailer for the old republic were leagues ahead of anything in all 6 movies. needs to be animated/cgi to do it justice and not have lucas anywhere near it. the only eps of the clone wars that sucked were the ones where he was involved. the rest have been fun

Lucas will not write post-Jedi anything nor allow it to be filmed until he passes on. At that time he has said they can continue the series based on the way the books went down.

The 'book story' is nothing like Lucas wanted, but agrees the fanbase has been set and he is happy with that.

I'm a fan. I love the continuing story line, the "1930's serial" feel, and the way they slowly (and smartly) introduce the technology and characters we see in episodes 4-6.

If the TV series is as well done, I'll be watching.

I loved watching The Clone Wars up until the re-introduction of Darth Maul as a Zabrak/Spiderish hybrid. Seems like the series may have jumped the shark for me. We'll see in a couple of weeks when the next season begins.

Syndication is probably the only way that this series will ever make it. Or, they need to make a mini-series with Netflix/Hulu. It would give them a way to try out the new medium and also see how the reception will be to the masses. Hell, Lucas has enough to probably start his own channel. If Disney can do it, surely George could.
