Star Wars Geek Needed

OK. At the risk of being run out of Dodge, I hereby admit to never, not once, ever having seen one of the Star Wars flicks. I'm figuring what the hell, let me give it a try. I've got my Netflix subscription going on, and a new Sammy DLP widescreen, along with plenty of beers, booze, and a friendly woman.
So I head over to Netflix, only to be totally confused as to all the different episodes. Can one of you fanatics lay it all out for someone who should probably just watch Casablanca again. Just how many of these Star War movies are there, and what is the chronological order they were produced?

1-Phantom Menace - 1999
2-Clone Wars - 2002
3-Return of the Sith - 2005
4-A New Hope - 1977
5-Empire Strikes Back - 1980
6-Return of the Jedi - 1983

You'll have a greater appreciation for the movies if you finish the story-line-chronologically-first trilogy before you watch the originally-released trilogy. Watch them in order, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

there, thats better

The problem with that is some people find it's a big "drop" from crazy graphics to some sh*tty visual effects.

Plus, he can't get EP3 yet, so putting htem in order is useless.

You'll have a better experience if you watch Episodes IV, V, & VI in order and don't watch I, II, and III at all. 😛

better experience, less knowledge me thinks. hmmmmm, this one, knows to little he does. more training, he requires

Here I was thinking you had a thought provoking question to ask, when in reality you are simply asking a question that 98.6% of the planet already knows the answer to. You didn't need a geek, you just needed someone who hasn't been living under a rock for any or all of the last 30+ years.

Yup, saw each original release in the theatre when they came out. Went with my sister in 77 and waited in a looooong lineup. I think a child movie ticket back then was under $2.00. When Star Wars toys/figures started appearing for the first time that fall, I think every young kid daydreamed about having the cool looking toys. I did.

See, there's my confusion. Shouldn't a movie released in, say, 1977, be watched before one released in 2005? 😕

Watch them 4,5,6 first.

why must you people all watch the middle first? if you start at the beginning, it will only get better 😀

Maybe for pubescents. I like the original order 😛

the originals are far the best imho. but they were made to be watched in order from 1 to 6 and soon to 9. even if the 1st 3 aren't the greatest films they should still be watched first to understand the story

How are they "made to be watched 1-6"? There are not going to be any more, Lucas has confirmed it. And, despite his later claims, he did not "plan" the prequels in the early 70s. Frankly, if someone had showed me 1 and 2 first, I would not bother watching the rest.

Seriously though, if you've never seen them before, then watch them as I listed 1 through 6, go and see Revenge of the Sith in the theater to fill in the gap.

Everyone is going to bitch and cry about only watching 4 through 6 or watching 4 through 6 fist, which is just dumb.

Just watch it like its supposed to be, 1 through 6 in order.

Lucas confirmed that he is not making the last 3, 7-9. Speilberg is. mark hamil, carey fisher and harrison ford have all signed on. and every story is designed to watched from the 1st part of the story to the last.

No, the newers ones are a Prequel, takes place before the original 3, if you watch the newer made ones first then watch the old ones, it will all make much more sense for you.

Sorry, that's not true. If you think it is, you'd better have some printed proof of it.

Hamil, Fisher and Ford will be in these last movies? Good God! What are they going to call it, "Star Wars: The Golden Years" 😕
