My buddy is playing it now. He's been thru everything MMORPG. From EQ, to AC1, to AO, back to EQ, then DAoC, then AC2, back to EQ. And now he's been playing SWG non-stop since he got it. And loves it.

Someone in my EQ Guild said the following about his own SWG experiences. Those who play EQ now, will know what I speak of:

"It feels like I'm in the bazaar all day."

For those that don't/haven't played EQ, the bazaar is a zone where PC basically become merchants to sell items. It is also a good zone to work on skills/crafting/etc.

So far, the "XP'ing" i'm told about, doesn't really appeal to me. But I must admit, the games LOOKS GORGEOUS. Of course, we all know it takes more than visuals (example Anarchy Online).

Here are my questions:

How is the stability now?
For those who have played EQ, how does the gaming experience compare?
What are your favorite/least favorite aspects of the game thus far?
Have you had to use their in-game support yet? How did it go?

Please, reserve your "it sucked in beta, it sucks now" comments for the SWG bashing threads. i'm looking for some real feedback from some gamers here.

I play EQ and tried SWG a bit, didnt really like it, and everyone I know who has tried it for an extended period of time has found it boring as well, except for star wars fanatics who praise it.

Check the reviews at shacknews. Last I checked it had a below average rating.

The 5 Star Wars movies 0wnz me

The NES/SNES/N64 Star Wars games 0wnz me

The Dark horse and marvel comic series 0wnz me

Star Wars Galaxies??......yep.....0wnz me

The game is great, especially when you group with a couple of people and do missions...

I've lost connection 3 times and the game crashed on me once. One thing, however, is that I get a lot of slowdown on my current rig: Radeon 8500/XP 1900+/512mb PC2700/Epox 8k3a+. Lucky for me, I'll be playing it on Friday with: Radeon 9800pro/XP 3000+ barton/512 MB pc3200/Asus A7n8x rev2/36gb WD raptor drive.... :)

I followed the game through beta and have been playing it since launch.

For me, the game is very stable. I haven't gotten booted off of it yet, and can get on it easily unless they're down for patching. I've ran into a few bugs, but they are very minor. No game breakers - just minor inconveniences. My two brothers that are also playing have had the same experience.

My favorite part of the game is chilling in the cantinas with some friends - exchanging stories, watching entertainers, forming parties, chatting about locations, etc. My least favorite aspect is that at the moment the missions seem all too similar - needs more variety.

Overall I feel that the game is definitely payable, and is definitely fun. There are obvious things that need to be worked on, but I'm confident that they'll be fixed up in short order. The content commitments I've seen from SOE look very promising. The game is fun now, but it has the potential to be HUGE with the coming additions.

I got it on the first day and couldn't log on.

Second day I was able to play and it seemed like EQ, which I played years ago, just better looking and with different controls.

Third time I tried playing, my character was gone, only his name was left, and I couldn't log on. I emailed SOE for help and a day later, they emailed me back and told me to log into the game and ask a GM. How the heck am I supposed to log into the game when my character is missing?

Fourth time I tried playing, my character was back and I was able to play for a while until my PC crashed.

All in all, it seems ok when I can play. But it just seems to be a reskinned EQ with better graphics. I can see myself playing it for a while.

My thinking is the game might not be doing as well as expected because I have seen the game on sale for $35 and today when I was at BJ's I saw it for $45.

Well, it's fairly stable. I seem to get kicked every other day or so. Every other day, I'll have problems connecting for a few hours. I'll play for an hour, then lose connection to SWG. Then close and relaunch the proggy only to have it happen again a few hours later. Other than that, the game is REALLY fun and very stable.

Sounds like a sugar-coated leveling treadmill to me. A glorified sims game in a SW universe. Why would your favorite part be sitting in a virtual bar chatting with online friends? Wouldn't it be more fun to actually go somewhere in real life and talk to real friends? Unless your ugly, that is.

The game has only been out for 2 weeks and many are already begining to find the game a perpetual monster killing bonanza. I thought it would bring something original to the table, but it really didn't. Just another setting, following the same old guidelines of making an MMORPG.

Oh, and before you say I should try playing the game, I have three friends that already did and cautioned me to buying it since I'll be playing it for a maximum of 1 month before my brain begins to rot away at the never-ending cycle of killing monsters. I realize there is a PvP aspect, but it's limited. The radar pretty much takes away the surprise element while the queing system has flaws on its own.

The destroy missions are very repetitive, BUT I am always excited because you never know what you will run in to on the way to the mission. I do hate, however, that corsec guards in Kor Vella shoot at me every time now.....just cause i killed one... :)

Relax man - take some deep breaths. It's far from a glorified Sims game. I like to go to the cantinas because it's something different. I've killed things and crafted in all the other games - this is a new and different experience. That's why I like it. Maybe the novelty of it will wear off later on. I go out plenty in real life, but sometimes I just want to relax and play a game - there's nothing wrong with that and it doesn't make me weird or you any better. Jump down from that high horse.

The game is big-time lacking in content, but what MMORPG hasn't been at launch? SWG has had an average to good launch comparatively.

It's far from "following the same old guidelines". The crafting system and player-run economy is like nothing I've ever seen before, and it works beautifully. Maybe you SHOULD play the game and make your own opinions instead of relying on those of your friends. Just like any game, it will appeal to some people and not to others. Just because you may not like it it doesn't mean that others don't love it. If you don't like it then move on - why dwell on it?

I just think that it's too easy to build up points and ask anyone to train you for a level/skill....

Didn't it crash immediately after they released it? Like on the first day? Now people are complaining of crashing every few hours and servers being down every other day and some ppl still say it's stable???

I just played it today at a friends house he had to buy a new video card just to play it so basically it was $200 just to play it intially (star wars nut) The character creation blows EQ away! We had no problems at all today and he said he has yet to be kicked off. the hunt and kill is EQ and is boring. I don't like that you can only have 1 character per server. I also don't like the way the NPC's dont do jack about selling and trading or that the machine you buy stuff from has replaced North freeport as a auction/social center.

If this was my first MMPORG i'd like it but the XP kill and hunt kill and hunt is very boring.

Also there are alot of kids that have bad etiquette as well.

thoughts ebay people are selling regular retial versions for $70? collectors for well over $100 weird. Also hacker/scammers are hitting ebay with credit for sale. really cheap too one guy says he can just put it into your bank account without you even logging on or traveling to him on a different planet. Looking for people to give him account information sounds like to me. SOE will squash the ebay stuff pretty quick the bastards but I guess they think they own the world.

I am not sure if I will buy it $12 a month is too much I think. Also to play well you have to play for hours and hours and hours and hours...

i'd have killed for that kind of stability back in the win95 days
