I'm a Star Wars fan but somehow never got around to reading any of the books based on the characters. I plan to dive into them now and would like some recommendations on which books are absolutely necessary to read and in what order they should be tackled (if it matters).

TIA

Are you wanting to read books based on the characters or the universe?

If the universe, check out the Timothy Zahn books, there's a trilogy. They take place after ROTJ and are all quite good.

Yup, Zahn has some nice ones. I also like some of Kevin J Anderson's stuff, though it's not quite on the same level. He did the "Tales Of..." series, or at least put them together.

If you want to start off with the best... read the thrawn trilogy. It is just about as good as the movies (if some parts not better) It's INREDIBLY good!

Agreed. There is also another set of Zahn books that came out a few years later that are offshoots of the Thrawn Trilogy that are also good.

The Thrawn Trilogy
Heir to the Empire
Dark Force Rising
The Last Command

The Hand of Thrawn Duology
Specter of the Past
Vision of the Future

Rogue Squadron series there are 9 of them, killer books I read them over and over again, I'm not sure why the series ended.

yeah... there are like 3 or 4 "tales" books that are all fairly short good reads. That'd be a good place to start. Tales of the Bounty Hunters is good as well.

I think its written by Kevin Anderson who is one of the better writers too (I may be wrong)

I'm interested in the entire expanded universe so any books are fair game in my opinion. Thanks for all the suggestions so far, keep 'em coming!
