I somehow got signed up for some stupid spam, involving tea party/republican candidates. I think it was the NRA who sold my email out but whatever. I read the title of one today and it said: " Your Choice: Constitutionalist or Socialist?" from none other than Christina O'Donnell. Now I am not very involved with politics on a national scale, I don't really care too much since I can't do anything about a senate race in another state. But this particular email was pretty disturbing to me. Now being a nerd I naturally love Star Wars, and find ways to relate it to everyday life. It seems like the Republican/Tea Party are Siths, and the Democrats are the Jedi Knights. Think about it. As Obi Wan told a young Darth Vader "Only a Sith deals in absolutes".

This theory that the Republicans are the Sith can also go back to George W. Bush who said "You're either with us, or against us". The same thing that Anakin told Obi Wan when they dueled on Mustafar. Does anyone else find it funny how politics in America are strikingly similar to politics in Star Wars?

It amazes me how some people think movies and their messages are some sort of prophetic bible to follow. But then, it explains the huge group of socialists among nerds who followed Star Trek... especially TNG.

Another clue: Actors, directors and writers are isolated idiot savants. Just because they are good at what they do doesn't make their political or social opinions valid.

Well, the Jedi Council did sit back and watch the galaxy burn when the Mandalorians were on the rampage. It took Sith lords like Darth Revan to stop them.

The Jedi had to resort to a treacherous sneak attack to bring Revan down and (temporarily) end his quest to bring security and order to the galaxy.

So: Jedi - too timid to act, Sith - bringing peace, prosperity, and order.

Keep in mind that in the case of Revenge of the Sith, it was being written and produced during the build-up and subsequent invasion of Iraq. Furthermore, the war in Afghanistan was already well under way and the Patriot Act had been signed years before production on Revenge of the Sith had begun.

While the general outline of the rise of the Empire had existed since the 70s, many felt that Revenge of the Sith took shots at the Bush administration ("You're either with us or against us!").

I don't really know if that was Lucas' plan or not, but you can certainly understand why some people might think he was making a statement against Bush with that particular movie.
